Questions about adding PC heads

Recommended Posts

I've been referring to the tutorial that "Darkkender" wrote on this subject but there are a couple things that aren't very clear to me. Just hoping someone might be able answer a few questions for me if they have time.

Specifically, I'm trying to make Jorran's head from K2 a selectable PC, but I'm not sure how a person goes about finding all the necessary files that correspond to this non-playable character. (I'm sure there has to be a trick to do this that can be applied to turning *any* NPC into a selectable PC head.)

Another question I had was this: Without overwriting any of the existing PC heads that you normally start the game with, is there any limit to the number of NPC heads that a person could add to the character creation process?

Thanks!

I don't believe that there's any limit to the amount of selectable heads you can add, but I'm not entirely certain.

Which 'necessary files' are you looking for? I can tell you that Jorran's head number is 179 by looking at the head texture names in heads.2da. Some things will require more detective work to find, but I guess I don't really have any tricks to impart.

Find the head number you want, make your three lines with appropriate head entries in appearance.2da, and add those appearance entries to a new line in portraits.2da. That's pretty much the basics of it.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.

The files I'm wondering about how to locate for Jorran would be the (texture) .tga and the model files .mdl & mdx.

I've noticed that like every head mod out there contains those files + the three .2da files.

I will try to explain this as easy as possible :)

First in KotorTool go to ERFs

From there select TexturePacks and then select swpc_tex_tpc.erf

From this point you will have several letters and a couple of numbers to choose from.

Most of the NPC head files are under the letter N so go down to N and expand it and scroll down until you find N_Jorranh01.tpc. When you extract the file it will ask you to save as a TGA.

Now for the MDL and MDX files the are under BIFS and models.bif

Look in the Aurora Model section for the MDL's and Aurora Model Extension for the MDX's

Usually (but not always) the mdl's and mdx's will have the same basic name as the tga(tpc)

So in this case you are looking for n_jorranh.mdl and n_jorranh.mdx

Hope this helps :)
