Guest Duncan
I got this off of another forum. -- *All civilizations are too similar. This is something good and bad but the scale tips to bad mostly, is good because once you know how to create one civilization basically you know how to play them all (thats about it), is bad because: a.-low replay value, if you have played starcraft you know half the fun comes from learning the 3 completely diferent styles of gaming from the 3 diferent races. in SW BG diferences are minimal. if you get bored of using one civ, you are basically bored of them all. with civs so diferent as the empire, the wookies and the laughable stock of gungans you could expect diferences would occur but nah! b.-sometimes it makes no sense: Just as mentioned civilizations are totally diferent but the game insists in making them use the same systems a forciori or how else would you call needing FOOD to create an R2 worker unit or the empire building FARMS? (if anything the empire would slave population to get food from them, or ship processed food, but not farming!) another example is troops creation, is perfectly believable that the empire or the alliance is capable of creating a robot to do farm work and repair/construction,etc equally is believable that a gungan or a wookie is raised in a hut. But .. how the heck is a storm trooper or an alliance trooper is BUILT inside a closed station? (sure troopers are clones but..) I think the developers should have gone the extra mile to provide believable ways for this kind of actions, instead of the cheap "copy/paste" solution to every single action on all civs, per example the empire could have had troops and food being transported from other bases or captured from planet civilizations. etc. and for your information.. robots could be built by carbon but not FOOD. also I really doubt empires or even rebels have really to go and fish for their food, also I really doubt fish will look EXACTLY the same in every planet in the galaxy. c.- Some limitations should apply: I will explain this with a single phrase, "8 darth vaders in a single screen fighting each other" think if this looks or hears believable an then we will talk. -- In particular I like his ideas for the empire getting their troopers. I have to agree with this guy (I don't know who it was, it was just a Board Guest). Gungans should play totally different than Wookies. Wookies should play different than the Empire. Etc. The whole thing with the AOK game which this is based off of, is similarity. The game is modeling different civilizations from the same planet and the same race. So everyone farms, builds, trains, etc. in roughly the same way. What would be nice is to see radically different civs (kinda of like starcraft). Anyway, just another thought. Guest porkins14
Part (b) is the most retarded thing I have ever heard in my life. I won't even comment further on it. I encourage you to play an expert in this game and be the gungans, and try to build a lot of troops against a wookie player who buildas a lot of troops, and uses the available upgrades (gungans have none). you will see how different gameplay is. WHAT YOU GUYS FLAMING REFUSE TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT THIS IS THE DEMO, THERE IS NO TECH LEVEL 4, WHICH IS WHEN ALL OF THE IMPORTANT RESEARCH COMES IN TO PLAY!!!!!!! Guest HVAC
Actually there are some valid points there......However lets remember this is just a game using a older engine desighned for a different game and from what i've seen so far i will have many hours of fun playing this game!In using Aoe engine there are certain rules they had to follow and so far they have cetainly done a good job in bringing an excellent game with what they had to work with!Personally i didnt like starcraft but hey thats just me. Now i belive this game will make money for sure and definitnly deserve a sequel!!!!!! What i would like to see in sequel is have them incorporate those ideas in a new game maybe make a new engine to accomplish these things of course it will be many years in the making...Face it this game could be better it could be worse but it is what it is, and again i like it!!!! But lets see them make the best game ever in SWGB2!!!!!! Is it too early to be talking about swgb2?As a Fan yes!As a devolper NO! I See no reason too flame someone for there ideas or opinuns That is where new revolutionary Products come from!
