Mav
What are doing in gmax? Modeling new weapons? I don't know how much experience you have with gmax, or modeling in general, but don't forget that you'll need to apply a texture to your mesh and with that comes UVMapping your model. There is a wealth of information in the tutorials sections of the forums, your best bet is starting there, that way you'll have a better basic understanding of what you're doing and you will also be able to ask more specific questions, to which the folks here will have better answers to. Welcome to LF and enjoy modding KotOR.
Canderis
Well it depends on how detailed you want the color. What I do, it is quite simple, I select the mesh(model) and I go into the modifyer tab and click on "unwrap uwv" then I click on "edit" under the unwrap uwv and I take a picture of it, then i load the picture up into gimp and texture it. ~Hope this helps!
