mdwags10
I'm running KOTOR in a Windows XP VM image, with 4GB of RAM. It worked fine through the end of the Taris section. However, when the Ebon Hawk lands on Dantooine, it crashes during the transfer from the video of the ship landing to the loading screen. I've tried adjusting my resolution and reinstalling the game, but it continues to crash. Kexikus
You could try and disable movies to see if that fixes it. To do so add "Disable Movies=1" under [Game Options] in your swkotor.ini file. You won't have any prerendered cutscenes if you do that but it might solve your crash issue. Atleast it did for me where the game randomly crashed after cutscenes.
mdwags10
I have tried to disable the movies and it still crashes. The odd things is that KOTOR2 seems to be working fine on the same VM. I wonder if I need to reinstall KOTOR and keep my saved games....
D.a.r.t.h
One thing you could try is set the processor affinity to one core (you can change it via task manager, you can also make a shortcut so it always launches with 1 core). Kotor can't handle multiple processors. Well, it can but it makes the game unstable and random crashes start occurring. I've heard TSL uses one core by default (you don't need to change it) so that's probably why it isn't crashing. I did this with my kotor and it did reduce the crashes.
