You got an answer to your question about the poster yet? yes, well, it isn't specific, are the cannon balls showing, or, are they, if they are, then, walk over to them until you can see look or use cannonballs, then without moving, just go in your inventory, and click grease (or oil) and use with cannonballs...it should work.
