Melvinjg96 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Hey all, so I've been trying to add new unit icons in my mod, but this isn't quite working out. Primarily because I don't have access to Photoshop, so I use an online jpeg to tga converter. The icons do show up ingame, but very messed up. E.g. the icon for the Dreadnought cruiser was at first oversized, but I managed to shrink it down to a fitting size. It does still have a white background though, so I was wondering if there actually is a way to properly add working icons without relying on Photoshop? Thanks in advance for the help. Cheers!
Tecness Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 I use PaintDotNet ( http://www.getpaint.net/index.html ). The correct size for unit icons varies between 48x48 and 50x50. It also shouldn't have a while background, it should have no background.
Melvinjg96 Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 That is where my problem kicks in, how does one remove the background? XD Certainly will check out that site though. Thanks for the tip!
Tecness Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Well, with PaintDotNet (Not the site, that's the name of the program), I use the little "Magic Wand" tool, and then just select the white/black/whatever background (with a low "Tolerance") and delete it. It then turns to a checkerboard-looking thing, and that means the background is deleted.
Melvinjg96 Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 Alright, that'll probably work. Thanks for the help!
Melvinjg96 Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 Update: after some orienting with this program I got my first custom working icon ingame, so I'd like to thank you for your help Here is the result, in case you're interested: http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-return-of-the-shadows/videos
