Darth Jack
Hey star wars masters/knights/padawans Does anybody here know how to use the Kotor tool to make .2da or uti files compatible?
Sithspecter
Darth Jack, what .2da and .uti files are you trying to make compatible? For .2da files, you'll likely have to copy lines from one to the other, and modify the necessary files that use those lines. The basic process would go something like this: You have 2 appearance.2da files that are incompatible. You open them both up in the KotOR Tool, and copy the extra lines from the second into the first, filling in the correct row numbers as you go, then save. Now, you have to go back and open up and .utc files from the second mod that use the new lines in appearance.2da. Update them to use the new appearance.2da lines, and save them. Darth Jack
I meant .utc, sorry for the mix up. Haha, it's okay It's just modding and 2da. files are confusing to me, I never got the chance to sign up back when there was like 1000s of people here so I only lurked and nobody really explained compatibility so I signed up here to get some information myself. I learned a great deal from the beautiful site. Shem, Jonathan and you Canderis etc were the ones I looked up to and I hoped to learn modding from you guys
Sithspecter
Is it specifically the .2da files that confuse you? You can browse through our .2da tutorial section here if you haven't already. The relationship between .2da files and GFF files (.utc, .uti, etc) is as follows: The .2da file contains rows with information in various columns that can define a specific appearance, base item, force power, etc. The most commonly used are appearance.2da which contains properties for the different appearances, and baseitems.2da, which contains properties for the various types of items. Appearance.2da tells the game what models a character uses for its different underwear and armor slots, along with several other model related properties. The .utc file will use a row from appearance.2da to define the creature's appearance. Any other properties will be changed inside the .utc file. So, to make 2 different appearance.2da files compatible, you have to copy the new rows from one, and paste them into the other. You also have to update the .utc files from the one you copied the rows from to point to the rows in the new appearance.2da file.
