Morello
All you guys seem to hate EMI, but I loved it. True it's not the same as MI, MI2 or CMI, but everything changes. Did everyone want the sword-fighting back? Cause really after 3 games, there needed to be a new way to kick someones (or EMI's case, somethings) ***. I thought Monkey Kombat was a cack. Mortal Kombat was almost ripped off in CMI, for those of you who didn't know, in the swordfighting part. If you have SCUMM revisited, search around the swordfighting section of the data file and you'll find two pictures that were meant to be superimposed over the top once you'd beaten the Captain - "VERBALITY" and something else which escapes me at the moment. "What a completely random piece of trivia." And to all those who thought that MK was too difficult to learn, it didnt take that much long than the original insult swordfighting in the original, did it? And hands up who expected that ending? Far-fetched? Of course, this is Monkey Island! But who wasn't laughing when the Mecha-Monkey appeared? The only thing missing from the battle at the end was that Japanese singing guy in the Mecha-Streisand episode of South Park. 'MechaMonkey....... MechaMonkey.....' I know you can all see it. Feel free to flame me if you need to, just expressing some positive thoughts for all those negative points. Mertini
I don't think it was a BAD game it was definatley a come down from the others.
Morello
Fair enough. It wasn't so typical of a MI game. But it was still a good game. I just don't like it when people nit-pick every little detail about what was wrong with it. If it was that bad, people wouldn't have bought it. True, as mentioned somewhere else in this forum, it's far from the perfect game. But it's a pretty damn nice try.
MrGenuchi
And if you didn't laugh (or smile, even) at least once, then there is something wrong with you. The game made me laugh repeatedly, and that's why it was a success to me. Monkey Kombat? Bah, I'd hardly concern myself with something that only takes up a minor part of the game. I'd buy the game just to hear Guybrush's awful pickup lines ------------------ "Goodbye cruel adventure game!!" - Guybrush Threepwood
Rufio
it was great. the question i would like to ask is am i the only one who liked monkey combat? ------------------ (¸.·'``'·.¸¸.·'`'·.¸¸.,.,.¸.·'´`'·.¸¸.·'´`'·.¸) «´¨`·.¸¸.*NewFoundGloryBoy* .¸¸.·´¨`» (`'·.¸¸.·'´`'·.¸.·''´`'`'`'·.¸¸.·'´´`'·.¸¸.·'´´) stop reaching for the stars, they are REALLY REALLY far away and made of FIRE! Guest Guybrush112
No, I liked it (after I got it written down) I think the final battle with the giant lechuck should have a cutscene of goofy fighting and that guy who sings 'Mortaaaal Kombaaat...dum dum' and then goes into a big music thing singing'Moooonkeeey Kombaaat dum dum, that would be funny!!! Also it would be cool if Guybrush did do insult sword fighting ( I want to do it in 3d! And that means not losing to and old Australian!) Like maybe the opening when Guybrush is chained, there could be a sequence were you like insult swordfight a couple of pirates on the ship!!! Morello
I loved Monkey Kombat! But I guess a lot of people didn't because they expected an adventure game and you know, mixing genres is just bad. ------------------ Rage. What better time than now? Burns
I liked Monkey Combat too. Not only was it funny, it was one of the best laid out puzzles in the game. It was difficult, well laid out, totally random (so no cheating), it didn't use time limits or action game type stuff to make it more difficult and all you needed to complete it was intelligence and time. Tell me why someone wouldn't like it? Was it just too difficult? Originally posted by Morello: I loved Monkey Kombat! brief
I read a bunch of subjects with people needing help with Monkey Kombat, so thought it was going to be really hard... until I got to it myself. It was such a simple puzzle! I figured out the logic behind it almost right-off the bat, and then the rest was just a matter of fighting more monkeys to figure out the combination. It was especially funny for me to watch Guybrush do a Street-Fighter fireball (Hodoken) followed by an uppercut (Shoryuuken) that had no purpose whenever I could use the Gimpy Gibbon ------------------ "Show me a man who's gentle and kind, and I'll show you a loser." -Meet the Parents
Morello
Yeah, I loved the parodies of those moves too! Did anyone else notice any other games being parodied? I can't remember now, so long since I finished. ------------------ Rage. What better time than now?
[drea]
I loved Monkey Combat!! It wasn't really as hard for me as everyone else said it was...I just wrote down the moves and stuff after like 2 battles and I got most of the stuff needed to beat Jojo pretty soon. I had fun with it...and the final battle with LeChuck? Before that when Jojo talks..that was soo cool!! I seriously loved the game. I was kinda disappointed it ended so quickly...or maybe it's just me. ^_^
brief
Well, of course the pose for Anxious Ape is the crane kick move from The Karate Kid. A few of the moves the the monkeys do look somewhat like Tekken or Soul Caliber moves, but I'm not too sure. ------------------ "Show me a man who's gentle and kind, and I'll show you a loser." -Meet the Parents
Rufio
i thought i heard guybrush say once before a match, MONKEY COMBAT, the way the mortal combat thing is said, but i only heard it once and no more ------------------ (¸.·'``'·.¸¸.·'`'·.¸¸.,.,.¸.·'´`'·.¸¸.·'´`'·.¸) «´¨`·.¸¸.*NewFoundGloryBoy* .¸¸.·´¨`» (`'·.¸¸.·'´`'·.¸.·''´`'`'`'·.¸¸.·'´´`'·.¸¸.·'´´) stop reaching for the stars, they are REALLY REALLY far away and made of FIRE! chunkymonkey
I didn't really like Monkey Kombat. Maybe because it took me two weeks to figure it out. Unlike some people, I didn't blame it on the designers. It a NEW idea! and that is what counts Some hated it, some loved it. That up to the people to judge

Pet-chan
SPOILERS (i´m not watching my tongue, so if you didn´t finish the game, don´t read) I loved monkey kombat too, and i think it was really easy to master, dozens of things in the game took me more time than learning those moves. I also used the Gimpy Gibbon all the time as some other guy said =) that was the coolest move. I particulary liked Guybrush saying "Let´s rumble" before a fight(all that confidence, knowing he was going to win, that´s unusual). The only problem with finding it easy was that i couldn´t understand what i had to do in the mech fight, i was lucky to solve that fast. I never tried the "monkey see monkey do" with the monkeys, so my boyfriend had to explain Lechuck´s reaction to me. If i had known he would do that i could have saved myself a couple of minutes on the useless fight. EMI is a great game, maybe not my favorite MI, but a more than decent member of the greatest saga ever.
Hellbeard
There seem to be an awful lot of cynics around... I like EMI much more than CMI - the swordfighting in CMI was IMMENSELY crappy and repetitive, and the insults just didn't work and almost all ended in 'ated'. The 3D actually works well and I loved soime of the bits in EMI, like when I used the earrings on the figurehead, or trying insult arm-wrestling, which is such relief from CMI's swordfighting. I have to say I liked the Blood Island part of CMI very much, but the rest was a bit... gimpy. The worst part of EMI was probably Stan, he seemed underused and the voice wasn't as good as EMI. Also the jacket was just weird... i don't think the pop culture references spoiled EMI at all, its just what Stemmle and Clark do. In fact there was a reference to Australia in MI2 (or possibly MI3) when talking about HT Marleys death, and anyway the games shouldn't be cut off from the rest of the world. And for all those people who said they changed zombie LeChucks' appearance - for hell's sake he was just a few pixels in MI2, you couldn't really tell - that's why the graphics in CMI and especially EMI are so much better (yes, I know, but they don't make the game).
