I am completely stuck in the swamp!

Hey everybody!

 

I have reached the swamp and I have the directions but I must be stupid, I just can't seem to make heads or tails of them. Could someone please give me a hint as to how to use them? - I don't want you to give me the whole solution, just a jumping off point. Thanks for any help!
