CaptainRAVE
As computers become faster and more powerful, the electronics inside must do more work. In a few years transistors (which power superconductors) will be turning on and off trillions of times a second, increasing power consumption dramatically. "If nothing is done, Moore's Law is going to be throttled," an expert says. Intel has therefore begun the process of redesigning their transistors to become more power efficient, and handle the added stress. Intel has developed what they are calling a Terahertz transistor, which can support 1 billion transistors on a chip, without increasing power consumption. They are more efficient, thanks to new material components and a built-in insulating layer.
