Pummel Drop

Hey there. Thought I would share you a story about a game I had. And where a pummel drop changed the coarse of the game.

To start out with this game lasted over 3.5 hours. It was me, _Nerf_Herder, vs finjo77. He did tell me later that if my earlier attack with my fighters was a little better it would have been only a 45 min game.

He played as the Naboo, my first time to combat a Naboo person, and I was GE. I thought I would do something different this game so I decided to do a Mounted Tooper rush. I really didn't do that great of a rush, and now I know why. I didn't have enough MT attacking. I think I only put like 3. I've watched a recorded game of bluemyriddn and he did the MT rush a couple times and it did its job, slowed the opponent's resource progress. That's all I usually use early rushes (late tech1 into tech2) for. Well my rush didn't do its job very well.

When I reached tech3 I proceeded to attack with some fighters. I was ahead of him in the tech and knew that he wouldn't have any AA turrets up. I made about 4 TIE fighters and attacked his base. I was able to get some of his workers around the carbon deposits, but was taken down by some AA troops. When I see AA troops I usually try to take them out by manually attacking them, contol the fighters and attack the AA troops one at a time. Well I didn't have enough fighters and that raid was thwarted.

My next operation was to build a forward base near his front door. I actually was able to two forward bases. These two bases were able to attack from both sides of his base. The only problem was that his base contained two areas that were shielded. I kept attacking from both sides with ATATs/Heavy Mech Destroyers (MD)/AA/Cannons. I attacked about 3 times from each side and did some damage, but was pushed back with his MD's, Assult Mechs (AM), and Cannons. They were in the shielded area so I was dead. He was actually able to destroy both my forward bases . He pushed me back with his AM/MD/Fighters. I really thought I was a gonner and told him that this would be my last stand unless things turned around.

I know you're wondering about the Pummel drop. Well its coming soon. Anyways, I made a defensive stand at my original base with a few ATATs, more Heavy MD, and AA. When he attacked he was sent back and I thought then that I had a good chance now, at least to keep my base. Not much survived that battle, but my base was intact. Then I remembered hearing about the Pummel Drop. So I decided to try it. I made two transports and 10 Hvy Pummels. I put 5 in each and scouted to see if there were any AA turrets at his shielded bases. I first went from behind him to look for those AA turrents, but didn't find any. So I sent my Pummel drop opts from his back. I was hoping to surprise him by coming from his back. While I was doing this I decided to build 30 Hvy MD and 10 AA so when it was successfull I can go in there and attack before he can rebuild. At this time I had plenty of carbon and food so I was able to build a lot of the Hvy MD. Well when I did the drop I wiped out his shields and took down some other buildings like jedi and fortess.

I brought my Hvy MD's in and finished up the rest. I actually made 30 more to make sure. He had some MD's and UU's around and it took some time to get rid of them, but my Hvy MD's was too much for him to fight back.

I really think the turning point of the battle was when I did the drop. It took out his shields and some military stations and this allowed me to come in and finish the rest.

Have you guys found that the pummel drop was a good strategy, and if so how did you employ it.

If they just bring pummels, the strat kinda sucks. You just have about 5 vills repair the cc while the other vills and any avaliable army you have kill the pummels. Chances are, he lost more res than you and you can usually launch a counter attack quickly. However, if the pummels are backed by a small group of good villager killing units(troopers, jedi, strikes) it can be very effective.

Pummel drop ... yes :D !!!!

I learned that tactic because It was used against me once. I also defend with a lot of AA since then.

And yes ... you can fit 5 AT-AT's in a transport. My best Pummel Drop had 10 transports with mostly pummels, some sith, bounty hunters, AT-AT's and some AA. The enemy had AA, but I distracted those with fighters.

What shocks me, however, is that no one has figured out the supreme anti-spank strategy yet. They've come really close, but not close enough.

Your Strategy? I doubt you invented it ;) it's an obvious choice for levelling a base.

And the counter, you keep mounted troopers in your base :D

It's a good tactic to use against a newbie but a good player

should be ready for it, the chances are that if it works the

opponent is not a very experienced player lots of AA Turrets

in the enemy base and you wont even get them on the ground.

and if you are that far ahead in the technologie race you should

win anyway IMHO ;)

you can only put 5 units in a transport, so you can only drop 1 AT-AT with 4 units in it.

PS:You asshole you didnt invented the so called ''drop en spank strat'' what a load of bull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you have large numbers of advanced anti air turrets with homing they won't stop transports. They have a ton of hitpoints and without homing the missiles will miss. Your best bet, if you suspect you are about to be landed on, is fighters. They *very* quickly take out transports. It's won the game for me before.

One game after spotting transports in the enemy base I quickly made several fighters. I was able to knock out 5 full transports before they landed. It was enough to shift the balance in the game.
