raVen_image
According to Webster, the three acceptable pronounciations are (in order of correctness) 'si-zem, ski-zem, and shi-zem. I have to admit that I've never heard it pronounced the first way. In the U.S., the second pronounciation is more common. The third pronounciation is closer to the Greek root. In short, Al, it means: 1) Division, separation 2) Discordance with a religious body or church Here is a good on-line souce: http://m-w.com specifically here: http://m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=schism They will even vocally pronounce the words for you
