WOW, hard as woodpecker lips!!

After playing this game in two levels (OOM-9 and Boss Nass) I thought I could tackle the computer one on one. I was wrong. I tried at two on one and they ganged up on me and wiped me out before I got one troop on the ground. Then, I tried one on one with a huge map. They flew across and hit me with Jedis and strike mechs, followed by heavy air attacks, and still I was trying to get tech level 4!!

I THOUGHT I was good at RTS games, but I guess this game may take it to a new level. I have played and beaten AOE, AOK, Starcraft, Warcraft, and most of the Command and Conquers, but this game kicks my ass!!

Does anyone have any hints for me?

Try setting the game on "easiest" or "easy". Make sure you can win reliably at those levels, before you tackle the computer solo on Moderate or Hard.

Also, yes, turrets are good. Even before going up to tech 2, make a single ore-gatherer. Have him gather ore while you wait for level 2 research to finish. Then immediately build a permanent wall-builder and 2 more ore gatherers. By now, you should have used your patrol scout to scout enough area around you, that you can see the areas that need blocking. Block off all the gaps between trees. In each gap, place a gate, flanked by a pair of towers, and then walls to fill in the space around them. If you do it right, you can usually situate these in the middle of the gap, and you won't need more than a pair of turrets per gap (just make sure all space from one tree line to the other is fully under the cover of the turrets. Then take 2 rifle troopers and 1 mounted troop to guard the gate. Keep going like this, blocking off the choke points, and adding troops, until you have all your areas blocked off. This will slow the computer's attack down substantially.

Also, don't forget every 3 or 4 troops, make an AA troop, in case the computer comes at you from the air.

You can also "stack the deck" a little bit. For example, play one of the maps with lots of water, and be the gungans, who have a water advantage. Play against one of the civs that sucks in the water. Or play Asteroids as Naboo or the Rebs (who are good at air/spacecraft) and go up against the trade feds or the empire (who are not as good in those areas). I try not to do that, if possible, because it feels like "cheating"... but if you are having trouble, little things like that can help, until you get your timing down. Eventually the early stages will become almost second nature (though there is enough variety that even those with lots of experience at GB and AoK sometimes miss a few steps).

May the Force be with you.
