bringing back the punk update

Rufio

Recommended Posts

well im just really bored so heres the xth punk update, which will undoubtedly not be appreciated by many, so what.

band of the week: the june spirit

these guys are the bees knees man, totally rad 80's style (ok not really 80's but hell that vernacular was wikked cool yo!)

they are from new jersy (why does the east coast get all of the great emerging artists!!) and they are an exceptional 5 piece indie/pop/rock/punk/ basically their own thing band. they have a toally unique sound and have put out two albums/eps to date. their demo which you can get off of mp3.com and treat me like someone else which you can grab at any local indie shop or what ever you guys call 'good' record stores :p

the guys are all really nice and many of them hang out around the starting line message board, particularly dave. their site is pretty nifty too, check it out here

song of the week: over it - ninetysix breaklights

i cannot stop listening to this song, its over it's best imho, and it is just too good to turn off! take a listen if you can find it on any one of those wanna be file sharing programs

The June Spirit is good. i listened few songs and i'm going to listen more.

Too bad i couldn't find that over it - ninetysix breaklights :(

Thanks for these bands anyway.

btw. What kind of music is "Emo". I know it's close to punk but i'm not 100% sure. I'm still wannabe-punk you know :) Thanks.

End.

a common misconception

emo is a term that was deemed to fit the post hardcore revolution during the late eighties, in all actuality true emo bands are nothing like the pseudo emo bands people think of today. they are not the nfg's or the rufio's out there. they are bands like fugazi, jawbreaker and the like.

for some reason people decided to call any band that sings about chicks an emo band, which is wrong, because they are all mostly pop bands (yeah nfg is a pop/punk band focusing mostly on pop, but i dont care like some close minded people out there'

honestly though, its just another lable out there, and i really hate lables, but thats another story.

aha! you've done your homework, but emo may not mean "emotional" but its been dubbed the term, you're right, it was refering the post 80's and 77 hardcore bands (bands that can't sing or play for sh*t like the sex pistols, 7 seconds etc...)

however, you can't argue that bands from the post hard-core era weren't singing emotional songs? songs about love etc...now, I do agree that if you are emo you have to mimic that same sound of the post hardecore era, but if you do mimic the sound and get the sound down then it is emo, and since all emo bands sang emotionally they came up with the name "emo", short for "emotion", it is truely wrong to call any band that sings about love or chicks emo, but if they have the sound AND sing emotionally they are effically "emo". my point? emo means "emotion" and simultaniously refers to the post hardcore era...technically, if some of the pop-punk bands (like Blink 182, Good Charlotte etc) sang about love they would truely emo....so just consider emo pop-punk without the attitude....

btw, lets never say "pop-punk" again, pop is such a bad word...I like to refer to it as "punk: lite"

Why everyone likes old blink 182? (I've heard many people say that besides bobbin) In my opinion it sucks. Even though i've never been a blink 182 fan, i like their new style better. It's more melodic and generally sounds better.

btw. Have they changed their drummer? In their two newest records the drummings sounds much more complicated than in the older ones.

They still have the same drummer, Travis or something. I once thought Blink was the coolest band, but now I don't really like 'em anymore. The vocals on First Date are really annoying.

BTW Couple of weeks ago, I was gonna DL "Sure Shot" by the Beasty Boys, but I accidently got "Sure Shot" by Yellowcard. Anyone know this group?

1) No they don't have the same drummer. The old drummer was called Scott and you can learly see him in the M&Ms, Josie and Dammit videos

2) Travis is a much better drummer because he uses alot of styles from many countries

3) Old Blink was better (well, IMO Dude Ranch was the best album and Buddha and Chesire Cat had some great songs. Enemea of the State was ok but it just got more and more poppy)

4) All of Tom's singing is annoying, but fits well with some songs (Josie, Pathetic, Anthem Part 2 etc.)

5) They better release Anthem Part 2 as a single soon, we might as well get one half-decent song from TOYPAJ
