First Impressions of Obi-Wan

I got Obi-Wan for Christmas and I think it's pretty damn good. You really feel like a Jedi running around swinging your light saber and using your force powers. Obi-Wan does a much better job of this than Jedi Knight for the PC. Using the right thumbstick you can control where you swing the ligtsaber or try to block a blow or blaster shot. You can throw your saber at enemies or force push them away from you (especially fun when they're close to a ledge).

You can also use the Force to throw objects at enemies, jump higher than usual, or slow everything down around you so that you can more readily control every swing of your blade (this last really uses up your force bar though).

The graphics are actually pretty good, not up to the level of Halo, but still pretty decent. Sound and music is great as it usually is for a LucasArts Star Wars game.

Multi-Player is fun, though more of an added bonus than a reason to buy the game on it's own. There isn't enough levels, and they are for the most part simple arenas, but it can still be fun to sit back with a friend and duel it out with members of the Jedi Council;)

The single player game is fun, with a good variety of interesting levels. They aren't quite as long as the ones in Jedi Knight, and like many console games it could be a bit longer in length. But what is there is fun, and there's some replayability if you want to unlock more Jedi and arenas for the multi-player part of the game.

At the very least it is worth a rent, and for those who like 3d action/adventure games or just the Star Wars universe in general I think it would be a great game to buy.

Now if they would just make a similar game from Darth Maul's point of view....;)

Yeah sounds good.

But i am still worried about the graphics (the screens looked awful)

Is it like the phantom menace on the pc with all graphics on or maybe even better and is it fully anti-aliased?.

Everybody who played episode 1 remembers the little secrets in every level and all the trading and everything (on tatooine), so i was wondering if obi-wan has all these kind of things aswell.

and are the levels as diverse and detailed as episode 1?.

Thanks for your comments. I still have mixed feelings about Obi-Wan. The graphics pale in comparison to Jedi Knight II, from all we've seen and JK2 isn't even done yet. The scaling back of multiplayer for the console was understandable, but too bad.

However, since I've been following the game almost since the beginning, I figure that I owe it to myself (and the team who put all that work into it) to at least try it out.

No in-store demos, this deserves a rental I think. Buying is out of the question. Around here an Xbox is 500$ + 50$ for the game, and add an extra 40$ if I want a second controller (usually you get two if you rent). However, I'm on vacation and this town doesn't even have any places that rent DVD players (okay, there's ONE, but it's at the school by my house and a faculty member has it checked out until the day I go back to classes). The only thing that's going to bite is the deposit. ; p

That reminds me, I rented a PS2 for awhile to play DVD's at home over break (no dvd players for rent, as I said) and it isn't too bad. Although I would never buy one to watch movies, since the drive door doesn't come out far enough (too easy to scratch discs) and the lack of remote (buy it for 12$ to get the updated DVD video drivers). The video quality is alright, though grainer than the panasonic 5 disc changer I used over thanksgiving. I'm suprised it didn't have S-video or even A/V cables, although I have heard about the "monster cables" they just weren't provided. And another thing, can somebody tell me what was changed with the PS2 controllers? As far as I can tell, they are identical to the "dual shock" ones that were made for the PSX, they just are in black instead of gray.

Kurgan (on vacation) ; )
