Lord Slart
Ok I remeber reading a question (from FAQ at JO site i think) about why the sabre doesn't cast a shadow and the answer was that the sabre is a light source and therefore does not cast a shadow. My question is about the 24th screen shot from JO site which i think the question could have been about. We know the sabre is a light source so why does it not cast a shadow of Kyle behind him as you can clearly see the pale blue light from the sabre on the floor and can see his shadow from some unseen light source to the left of him. I know it's very picky but as they said the sabre is a light source and should therefore its light should cast shadows too. Sorry about not showing the shot but I don't know how to do it so you'll just have to look for yourself or someone else could put it up for me for you to see for yourself. GonkH8er
Well, not really. I just depends which light source is brighter. If you strike a match in a dark room, and put it on one side of your finger, and have a wall on the other, sure, you'll have a finger shadow. But if you have a really bright light on behind you, you probably wont get a shadow from the match, because the more powerful light is overriding it, casting light where the shadow was, presumably. afaik.... Lord Slart
I agree but about the brighter light source but my ppoint was that it should still create somesort of shadow whether it's diminished by a stronger light source or not it would still be there. One image that comes to mind is the multiple shadows you get from lots of Flood lights on a sports field, with each light creating its own shadow. I did say it was a picky point but thought it was worth a mention.
Lord_FinnSon
I'm not so worried about the fact does lightsaber cast a shadow or not(we have already gone through this debate too many times and most recently we touched on this subject here), but instead I find it strange that none of these screenshots, we have already seen doesn't actually show lightsaber casting light on Kyle himself. Weird, because he is most closest to its source; a good example of that comes from the scene of Episode II Forbidden Love trailer, where saber quickly illuminates Anakin's face during duel. chilli
I not the one to ask about this and it would be nice if I could have some support from a knoledgable person but I don't think the animations would be very simple to do with all the shadows and light from the lightsaber. I am not sure though (Mind you it is a total guess but it isn't unreasonable, who know what modern tecnology can do)
Jedi Howell
lighting isnt done through animations there's regular lighting, which is made during compile of the map and then there's dynamic lighting, which is rendered dynamically(duh) through the engine...it probly would be pretty simple to make the saber cast light on kk, as it can cast light on the floor. However, it would require a more powerful computer, as it has to render kk with the light on top; 10x more complicated than rendering it on the floor...it probly is in there as a toggleable option, or maybe a part of dynamic lighting... plz, correct me if im wrong; i sound like i know a lot, but a good deal of this is just inference(%85, to be exact) jh
