Crazy_dog no.3
And my new computer that GB is on is only 3 months old, with lots of high-tech stuff and Windows Xp Pro. It pauses every 5 secs and then returns to normal for 5 secs then puases, etc.
Chessack
The most common reason for such problems with most games, not just GB, is that you need the latest drivers. Just because you have a new system, does not mean the guys who put it together for you bothered to get the latest drivers. Try going to the websites of your video and sound card vendors, and see if your particular cards have newer drivers, for XP. It's a new OS and they are still trying to get a handle on how the drivers work. If there are new ones for XP, d/l them and install. You ought to see a very substantial performance increase. I have 98, not XP (perish the thought!), but I also had some "stutter-step" behavior occasionally (though nowhere near what you are describing). My problems were 99% solved by d/ling the new sound card drivers. Hope this helps.

Pentium ONE mother board but instead of a 5 sec. pause, it's a 10-15 sec. pause and it takes the fun out of it. i've been trying to get a new computer but i haven't had any luck...personal reasons, but don't feel bad. it could be Xp. remember when Me came out? Chessack
I offer a pat on the shoulder. I recall the evil of having a machine I could not afford to upgrade, and having all sorts of games I wanted to play but couldn't (or had to suffer through poor performance to play them). It is an evil thing. But don't worry, one day your financial fortunes will change, and you too, will have a cutting edge machine. And, ah, it will feel so nice when you do.
