Mafia_Jabba Posted February 17, 2002 Posted February 17, 2002 I'm preparing for a lan party this weekend but I'm having a problem. I set everything up w/ the original ip and sub mask thing, but my pc is the only pc i have available on the network right now. But when I restart my pc and everything and go to Network Neighborhood>entire network its telling me I cannot view whole network. Shouldn't I at least get to see a blank screen or something or at least my pc on there? Can anyone help?
Outlaw_Torn Posted February 17, 2002 Posted February 17, 2002 Man, the same thing happens with my computer! It makes LAN games harder
matt-- Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 can you ping the other computers in the network?
Outlaw_Torn Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 I can, but I can't access them through network neigborhood.
Mafia_Jabba Posted February 18, 2002 Author Posted February 18, 2002 Do you guys have any suggestions on file transferring over a network without the use of network neighborhood?
Roger Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 Some questions, - What operating system are you using? - Do all the PC's have the same workgroup name? - Do all the PC's have TCP/IP installed? - Do all the PC's have a unique IP address? - If you're using windows, what are you're network settings? After knowing a little more, maybe I can help...
KordKelly Posted February 18, 2002 Posted February 18, 2002 http://www.wown.com It's a great home networking resource;)
Mafia_Jabba Posted February 18, 2002 Author Posted February 18, 2002 For Roger: I only have 1 pc now but when they come over it will be 5. I know about the original IP's and stuff. Windows. Yes about Ip installed. Whats a workgroup name? What sort of network settings? Do i need 2 computers to browse entire network?
matt-- Posted February 19, 2002 Posted February 19, 2002 Originally posted by Mafia_Jabba Windows. Whats a workgroup name? What sort of network settings? What version(s) windows? A workgroup is just a way you group windows computers. For instance: my workgroup is DAGOBAH. In it are the hosts Vader, C3PO, Jabba, Luke, Bollux(and more on occasion). All of your network settings.
