Possible plot twist

[Vague Spoiler Warning]

I was just thinking, I rember mention of having 'help' with the Saber Duels.

It's posible that Kyle will have an apprentice (or another apprentice in you count Mara Jade) that will help him out.

I was just figuring, given the history of Star Wars, that it's possible that Kyle dies in the game, and the apprentice takes over.

Now.. before everyone slams me and says 'LucasArts and Raven would never do that!' I'd say t would be rather dramatic and very apt for any kind of redemption story.

Kenn Hoekstra said

"Who knows what the future will bring for Kyle Katarn? That remains to be seen. A lot will depend on LucasArts and whether or not Kyle is strong enough to survive his latest, most deadly challenge in Jedi Outcast. "

in the elited interview

Maybe there is a fight at one point near the end, that you can win and continue with Kyle, or die and play with the apprentice, leaving the path open for the expansion and Jedi Outcast 2. Or maybe there are no options, and Kyle must die...

I think it's far more likely they meant that in some saber fights you will be joined by Luke (or whoever it is helping you out in those screenshots). I can't see Kyle dying towards the end of the game and then you finish as an apprentice because that would break just about every narrative rule there is. I wasn't too keen on the way they did it in MotS where you play as Kyle for a few levels then suddenly change to Mara. It would make even less sense to spend a whole game developing a character then kill him off 90% of the way through so that you finish off the last two levels or so as some mere apprentice.

I think that if there is an apprentice and Kyle does snuff it, it'll be more like what digl hinted at - perhaps Kyle will die in the end cutscene (or some sort of cliffhanger?), and then in an expansion or sequel you play as the apprentice avenging his death? Personally though, I think Ken Hoekstra's comment (possible spoler):

"A lot will depend on LucasArts and whether or not Kyle is strong enough to survive his latest, most deadly challenge in Jedi Outcast. " is a reference to the fact that they'll only do a sequel if JO sells enough copies.

I don't think so... Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, and Jedi Outcast (in this case, will be) were all extreemly popular and probably brought alot of money in. By changing anything big in the series (such as killing off Kyle) will most likely result in a decreesed profit for the next game in the series, or completely destroy any possibility of a true sequal, which LEC wouldn't want to do.

Also, digl, I'm sure the dev was reffering to the player, I doubt he would even hint at the ending of the story.

Or maybe LEC can decide which path to choose.

Imagine Kyle dies in the end cutscene.

Then depending on how this apprentice character is received by the players, they may choose to use him for new games, or they can go back in time, and use Kyle at the MotS time period as Stormhammer said.

Not necessarily. While DF and JK did well in sales, that was a long time ago and it doesn't guarantee huge sales for this game. Elite Force did really well in a lot of reviews, but I read somewhere recently that they didn't sell nearly as many copies of that game as they were hoping to. I don't think any of the recent SW titles on PC from Lucasarts have done that well in sales either (but then about 99% of them sucked @$$ anyway :D).

Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt that JO will be a huge hit - Lucasarts are certainly hoping so judging by the build up to the game's release :).

But the fact remains that you cannot stick a SW label on any old turd and expect the public to buy it these days. Look at Battle for Naboo - in the bargain bin at my local EB 2 months after release. I suspect the same thing will happen with the PC conversion of Starfighter - another so-so console game ported to PC. Even the latest MI game didn't do that well in the UK, despite the fact that it was a good game. While the console kids will buy anything, it seems PC users (in the UK at least) have become a lot more descerning. Still JO will sell by the bucketload 1) because it's ace, and 2) because it's not set in the prequel era, so you get to kill stormies - I am so sick of seeing those pathtic battle droids!
