Obi Kwan Posted March 23, 2002 Posted March 23, 2002 Just curious for some of you movie enthusiasts; who are you rooting for this sunday for the 2002 Oscars? Im sure many people here are looking for a Best Picture award for The Lord of the Rings; I have not seen A Beautiful mind but it seems that it is gonna win from the reviews I have read. The one award that I am positive should win is Momento for best original screen play. I was so confused by that movie!!! Anyway; what do you guys think?
Chanke4252 Posted March 23, 2002 Posted March 23, 2002 I hope its Lord of the Rings personally. Im going to see A Beautiful Mind today, but I still dont see it being better than Lord of the Rings. I think that the Lord of the Rings will do better next time around with the Two Towers. The first one had to set a lot of the story up in the first few minutes, so I think people who havent read the books dont realize how well done it actually was.
Rogue Nine Posted March 23, 2002 Posted March 23, 2002 Russell Crowe's a stuck-up, arrogant snob. I don't like him. There's a reason I went to see LotR eight times and A Beautiful Mind only once. Sir Ian McKellen all the way!
Chanke4252 Posted March 24, 2002 Posted March 24, 2002 I think Russell Crowe is a good actor, but his head got huge after Gladiator. Also, A Beautiful Mind was sort of exagerated from the book it was taken from. LotR and ABM are two very different movies. I still think you really have to read the LotR books before you can truly appreciate the first movie. Maybe the people who didnt read the books will appreciate the movies more once theyve seen them all.
Frumpus Posted March 27, 2002 Posted March 27, 2002 LOTR was . . . . . MUCH better than I had expected. I had been dreading that they would NOT stay true to the books, and was very delighted to see otherwise. Although "some" artistic license was taken (i.e. too much Arwen), Jackson did an unbelievable job at recreating the feel and vision that Tolkien created. I remember being STUNNED at Rivendell, at Hobbiton, at Mordor, at Orthanc, at Moria,. .. again and AGAIN . .. . !!! What I had pictured in my head YEARS ago while reading these books .. . . I was actually seeing before my eyes on screen, EXACTLY!! And I'm an artist!!!. . . It was almost surreal. I guess that is also a tribute to the detail and extent to which Tolkien described the settings in the first place!

Oh, you forgot to mention how he breaks up marraiges/ is an adulterer. And Gladiator was great because of just about everything else in the flick, not Crowe. He was decent, but wasn't even the best actor in the movie. Jaquoin (sp?) Pheonix owned him. I did like LOTR as the best movie of the year. I too had the highest hopes and was not disappointed. For the record I did not see Beautiful mind so I can't really compare. HBK
