Orkado
Hello, I've been a long time visitor to this website for the latest JKII information and have been very anxious for the release of the game. Sadly, my first post has to be in the tech support... I've been having an issue that has completely baffled not only LucasArts tech support but the service center where I got my PC from (Gateway). Here are the relevant specs on my machine... Gateway Select 1000 1000 mhz Athlon Processor 256 MB Ram 32 MB nVidia TNT2 graphics card Latest nVidia display drivers Direct X 8.1 Problem (a problem that recently sprung up after the motherboard was replaced because of a short in the keyboard/mouse ports): Games such as JKII, Unreal Tournament, and Voyager: Elite Force freeze up at the main menu randomly. The menus on those games are navigatable for a while but eventually lock up. With JKII, it locks up almost instantly every time the main menu first comes up and the computer must then be powered down. What I Know: It is not an issue with the display/graphics card as the service center tried a different card and the problem still occured. It is not a CD Rom issue as the game was ran from several different CD Roms on the same machine and the problem still occured. The CD itself is not a bad as I tried the game at a cousin's house and it ran perfectly. The Direct X Diag found no problems with any drivers or problems rendering video or sound. Games such as Elite Force, Quake III, and Unreal Tournament have run perfectly but are now having the same issue that JKII has after the motherboard/processor was replaced. The only thing that makes sense is that by some ungodly chance there is a defect in the new motherboard/processor that causes this problem. Any other possible reasons why this is happening? Keep in mind that those before mentioned games have worked before and now are experiencing this problem. Thanks in advance.
teleguy
When you replace a motherboard it's recommended that you reinstall Windows. Maybe that helps.

Did Gateway give you the EXACT same motherboard brand and model? if not, windows might need to be reinstalled to detect the new motherbaords features. Have you checked your BIOS setting? They might also have changed, I seen to recall the TNT2 cards had issues with power consumption and AGP settings. Try checking into your bios settings for AGP apeture, and if available sideband addressing or sidebanding, those should be off for a TNT2 card I believe. Also hit here, http://www.afn.org/~afn03257/driver.html and make sure you get the latest drivers for yout motherboard chipset, if you don't know which chipset it is make gateway tell you.
