I'm not sure if its the right forum but i'll ask anyway.

I have a home network with two Computer connected with network cards. In the troubleshotting it says that both comps have to show up in the networkbrowser thing and than it works. They show up but it doesnt work.I cant find my server with the other comp.I checked direct-x and saw that there is an error with the jo multiplayer exe;In the registry line it says just "error" and in version line it says : "Missing File".

And down on the "help" section it says "the registry information of the directplay-application are missing or corrupt.Reinstal that application!"

So did I.

And nothing changed.

Anyway can anyone please tell me what to do?

And by the way how do i find out my ip without being conected to the net?

What command line are you using to startup your server? Are you using it dedicated or do you plan to play on it as well? What type of network setup do you have? Are you using a router or just a hub? Have you tried reinstalling DirectX? Do you have DX8 or a previous version?

As far as figuring out what your ip is, that sorta depends. If you go to Start->Run->winipcfg that should pop up some info about your connection. You may need to change which adapter is being checked depending on your setup. If you don't have an active net connection or a router, there's a good change you won't have an ip address assigned to the comp.

You mean you are using a crossover cable directly from one computer to the other? Or do the network cables from both computer plug into a little box with lights on it? Or are you using one of the "home-networking" kits that doesn't use ethernet?

If it would be easier, you can contact me directly using icq (74850239), AIM (MatrixCPA), or MSN Messenger (matrixcpa@msn.com).

***UPDATE***

After some IM Q&A, he is using a crossover cable (which isn't 100% relevant, but I thought I'd share) and gets his ip via dhcp. When connected to each other, the comps aren't connected to the net. The reason he couldn't see the game across the network was because the noipx cvar was set to 1 (disabling ipx) and neither box has an assigned ip addy. Since that is the case, it was simpler to enable ipx (changed the cvar to 0) on both systems.

Problem resolved.
