"force feedback not initializing"

When saving a game or loading a new level or movie, the game occasionally quits to the console(?), where the message "foce feedback...inhibited, not initializing" appears, necessitating a restart and a load of the previous successful save. To a certain, but appreciable extent, this annoys me.

 

I have the joystick disabled in control settings, so force feedback shouldn't be any kind of an issue. Does anyone know what's going on here and how to stop it?
