mdehamer
Does anybody know how to make additional skins available on a Dedicated Server? I have a server that I am setting up and want to make it so that people can select the darth maul skin....is this possible? I have the darthmaul.pk3 file on my local computer and can select it if I am running off my machine...but can't figure out how to do it on my dedicated server... edit: ok...I just figured out that if I enable cheats on my server I can select the darth maul skin but only on my computer where I have the skin saved....anyone got any ideas? MatrixCPA
Do you have the skin installed in the base directory of the server as well? Basically, if you are running a pure server then clients can only use skins that are also installed on the server. Make sure you restart the server after you install any skins or maps. Otherwise, the server doesn't recongize them as installed. For other players to use or even see others with the custom skins, they need to have them installed also. If they don't, they'll just see the player using them in one of the default skins. At least with other Q3 engine games, even if the server is pure...you can still have people use the custom skins as long as they are installed on the server as well as their local machine. If that's changed with JO, then you'll probably need to run the server "unpure". To change that setting add this to your server.cfg: seta sv_pure "0" One more time, just for clarity...if you are using a custom skin and another player doesn't have it installed...they see you in a default skin. The reason for this is that it is possible to use skins that are all black or some other combination of hard to see colors. However, if the other players don't have them installed...you won't have the advantage of being so hard to see.
mdehamer
Thanks for the info Matrix!! I got another question that maybe you can help with...I have been trying to set up a server.cfg file that will allow cheats on the server (seta sv_cheats "1") but when ever I try and execute a cheat in the console it says that cheats on not enabled...is there something that I am not doing right? MatrixCPA
You might want to check your jk2mpconfig file located in /base. It probably also contains that same variable. Make sure that it's set to "1" also.
mdehamer
I checked and I actually don't have a jk2mpconfig file in the "Base" folder on my dedicated server...I do however have one on my hard drive of my computer. Should I just upload the one that is installed on my comp? or do I need to make a specific one of the dedicated server? If I make one for the dedicated server is this file just the same as my server.cfg file or is it completely different (ie varibles that need to be set up)? Thanks for the help man I really appreciate it!!!
MatrixCPA
What I meant was that if you have sv_cheat "1" on the server (in server.cfg), you may also need it set in your jk2mpconfig file on your client machine.
pentup
isnt there some way that clients can auto download skins? i run a lan party and have created some skins of me and some friends, and i would love to set it up to auto download rather than making sure they all installed them right (i know its easy, but people are dumb). ManeFraim
sv_cheats is (as far as anyone can tell) broken in JKII. To get cheats in MP, load your maps with devmap <mapname>, rather than map <mapname>. The load screen should start with BOLD PRINT that says CHEATS ARE ENABLED have fun
