LDRsaber
I just got a brand new Nvidea GeForce4 mx 420, a 64 mb sdram card, it should run all the new games and especially this one, i loaded all the drivers etc but the game is still choppy. i know i have a slow cpu clockspeed around 500 mhz but it should not run this bad with a new card. does anybody know what is wrong or gow to help me? thanks
Lt. Durden
It's your clock speed, sorry dude. And you also got the MX, which really suck. No offense, but u get what you pay for in that respect. The only reason why the Geforce 4 is so good is because of its insane speed. The MX version just doesn't have that. How much ram do you have btw? W/ a p3 500, u need 512 to really handle today's games at all. I just upgraded, but I got a GeForce 3 when I had my P3 500. It ran stuff ok, but things like Day of defeat, even ran ****tily. U need to get a better CPU, that would make a much bigger difference than your GFX card.
Red Solo
Make sure the drivers are correctly installed - then go and grab the latest NVIDIA Detonator drivers Once installed, make sure hardware accelleration on the card is maxed out. theres a slider in the video system properties. Make sure its all the way to the right. Then you'll just have to tweak yer game untill you find a good balence for the card and the cpu performance. If its chopy and you have smooth shading on, switch it off, its its still choppy drop the texture detail to 16bit. If that wont help then reduce the resolution. cromax
sorry to break the ice dude, but yout Geforce 4 MX 420 isn't exactly a gaming beast, its a low end card replacing the geforce 2 mx, as its a 420, ther4e si 2 other versions "440 and 460" these use DDr and are much faster than your version, coupled with your CPU, 500MHz isn't what you will need to get this game running good, ideal system is 1GHz+, GF3+ ... so try turning down the viduals/resolution, if you upgraded your dated 500MHz cpu you would get alot better performence, ie: a 1.2GHz AMD Duron will cut the butter , but that requires a new motherboard aswell, not to mention this game is RAM hungry, so you will probbal need 256Mb+ for good l-t's
Patton
Top of the line to bottom of the line. GeForce 4 Ti4600 GeForce 4 Ti4400 GeForce 3 Ti500 GeForce 3 GeForce 3 Ti200 GeForce 4 MX460 GeForce 4 MX440 GeForce 4 MX420 GeForce 2 Ultra and then it gets gray for me, because I don't care past this point. The fact of the matter is: You should take that MX420 card back to the store, and soon, and get a GeForce3 for like 150 bucks. nVidia really screwed up with this naming scheme, its very misleading. BCanr2d2
From what I remember, it is more like that the Geforce 4 MX are related a lot closer to the Geforce 2 MX cards than any other card.
BrainStorm
Go for the G3Ti200. It is plenty powerful and relatively cheap. You also have the ability to overclock it as well. (Not that you need to at this point)

Kenn already said when you turn it up the game is CPU intensive, that means the video card GPU is not being used for a lot in this game, they opted for CPU instead. Besides, you could have bought an old GF2 or 2 higher speed card for the proce you bought the GF4 MX. Other than that, check this thread and see if it helps. http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38478
Paendrag
This GFORCE 3 or higher nonsense is just that. I have a Radeon 32 DDR. The game runs completely smooth for me at 1024 x 768 with all settings at high quality. I've had no slow downs, no visual artifacts, and very fast load times (another area of complaint for people around here). My CPU - Athlon 1.1 GHz 256 megs of pc 133 ram
]CkB[Polaris
i have a pretty solid card (gf2ultra64) in a p3-650 and it runs very smooth. however, I did at first have a problem with choppy play because i had the audio settings mismatched to the capabilities of my sound card. The CPU was getting hammered trying to manage tons of audio data that the card wasnt strong enough to handle. Turned the audio to a less agressive setting and I have had no problems since. Robbiesan
If you can afford it grab yourself an ATI Radeon 8500.. it is a superb card and also provides dual monitos capability.. all the same though, yeah, a faster CPU and 512MB would be a bonus.. JaNg0
Also the ATI Radeon 8500 (retail) is only about 20 bucks more than the GF3 Ti 200's and I have read this alot lately that with the new drivers from ATI that the 8500 is better than the GF 3 Ti 500's, and the ATI has pretty textures... MontyPython
Dude, even if you get a Geforce4 Ti4600 you won't be able to play this game with its full beauty. Your processor is your bottle neck, meaning high end video card will not perform with its full capabilities. To play this game with full beauty you need a 2.0Ghz processor, Geforce3 Ti500 or Radeon 8500 at least, and more than 512mb of ddr ram.
PlayaShaw
I would like you all to know that I am running a p3 500 with an original diamond viper nvidia TNT 16mb video card and the game works fine. The load times are a bit long and on the highest video levels it get choppy, but lower those a bit and it runs great, faster and smoother than UT. I do have the latest drivers from nvidia but my card is so old that i have to use a combination of old and new drivers. I have very little problems with performance. Biggs311
I have a PIII 550, running Win2K with 768 Megs of RAM and I just bought the GeForce 4 MX 440 and the game runs pretty sweet for me. At least I think so. The load times aren't bad and I have a lot of the settings turned pretty high and my system seems to be handling it all ok. No slowdowns or anything. Just my two cents.
