ZJX2172
Glad to see others are having issues... My issue is that the game dies at the end of the first level. The game installs fine, loads fine, saves fine, runs fine, sounds fine, and looks great (even at higher detail levels). But whenever I get to the end of the first level, the game dies and takes the system with it. At the end of the first level, I walk across the new catwalk and go through the door. I See my stats for the level, and then the next level loads. The blue bar gets all the way across. Then one of two things happens: 1) The computer reboots on its own 2) The game appears to start the next level. I hear the sounds, see the gun waving up and down, get the notice about new info in the datapad, but I can't move, fire, or anything else. Even the caps lock key won't respond (the LED won't change on the keyboard). My only recourse is to reboot. I've got all the latest video, sound, & motherboard (AGP) drivers. I have reinstalled many times, trying both my DVD and CD-R drive. I've turned the graphics down to minimum. Still no luck. Only one other poster (Typhoon) has posted a similar problem. Anyone have any ideas? Is there some sort of cutscene at the next level that's causing problems? System Specs: Athalon XP 1800+ 512 DDR 333 ram (underclocked at 266) C-Media CMI8738 MX Sound Chip (onboard my Iwill XP333 motherboard) Radeon 7500 64MB DDR (All-In-Wonder model) WinXP Home Please Help, or Respond if you're suffering similar problems. I feel like I payed 50 bucks to play a demo. Z

GUNNER
I have no clue as to whats wrong, just came in to say hello and welcome. I'm sure someone will be by to help out soon. And if it's any consolation at least you got to the end of the first level before you had problems. Mine started about half way through the first level.. Trelen
Hi! I have an Athlon 2000+ XP and have found that they are very tricky items. I don't know what your current processor speed is but you may want to turn it down a little and try it again. I say this because I have had to scale mine back due to instability with some programs. Also, you may want to have your RAM checked out. Just a question, do you use a A7V266-E Asus MB? // Trelen
jason-alaska
See the following thread for a possable fix on the Unsupported marker type *x** error message. It worked for me! ZJX2172
I've tried the suggested fix (Copy CD to HD then install from HD) but still the same problem. Since it reboots on me, I never get any error messages. Is there a way to force the command console to log it's output, so I can go back and look at the last messages before it dies? Thanks Z
Kendrick
I had the same problem, a crash when loading after the color codes, and I solved it by increasing agp aperture size from 64 MB to 128 MB. I hope it helps you too.
HC - Exar Kun
If you're experiencing the mUnsopported marker type errors Try this.... Backup your save files to another folder ( If U wanat to keep them) Uninstall the game.... remove EVERYTHING Delete the folders the game got installed into (via explorer) Put the cd back in the drive... But dont use the install from the autorun... Go through Explorer or the Run option and run setup.exe that way. It seems to work for that error.... I beleive that the installer is corrupting files during install on some systems....
ZJX2172
Kendirck, I'm missing something. How do you increase the agp aperture size? Z
Kendrick
This can be done in the bios setup
ZJX2172
I found a workaround for my problems!!! 1) I installed Win 98 on another HD I had, and booted off it. 2) Grabbed all the latest drivers. 3) Installed Ali AGP patch 4) Installed DirectX 8.1 5) Installed Latest Drivers for Video (Radeon 7500 AIW) 6) Installed Latest Drivers for Sound Chip (C-Media 8738) 7) Installed JK II 8) Played the game from start 9) Died once (as many times as I've played the first level you'd think I know where all the troopers were) 10) Finished the first level! 11) Held my breath 12) Was able to play the second level! Hurray! Now lets see if I can coninue playing without problems. My instinct tells me that XP was responsible for my issues, however it's impossible to verify this since I had to install W98 drivers instead of the WXP drivers. I offer my solution to anyone who wants to try it, and I thank everyone for trying to help. Of course, I'm not satisfied with this solution. Having to downgrade an OS to play a game is ridiculous. Gendalf
My system specs are as follows : amd 1.2 abit kt7a ati radeon 64 mb vivo 512 mb ram 40 & 60 gig maxtor ata 100 audigy platinum win xp Now I've had the same problems as the rest of you. You get to the end point of mission one and the second one will not load. I've tried numerous display settings (in game) nothing. I've tried other ati drivers, nothing. What I did was install my father-in-law's win2k on another partition and voila it worked. Have you tried to load the game with a save game past the problem area while in win xp. Now, it freezes but with a radio static noise coming from the speakers. I will try the bios trick. Has anyone had this problem with win xp and a nvidia based vid card? It looks like it might be an ati and winxp prob. BTW, I've recently finished the game, it's so awesome.
Gendalf
Just thought I'd drop a note and say that the bios change worked. The one involving changing your agp aperture size from 64 to 128, worked like a charm. Thanks for the info guys.
Y_T
I have been having these symptoms and finally found that un-o'clocking the CPU removes all crashes and save game loading problems I was experiencing. BTW. After putting the FSB back to 133 from 140 (XP 2000+) te G4 4400 actually runs at 315/660 (from a best of 310/621) and all my benches improved! Hope this helps.
