Voodoo 3+JKII=Really F***** up

Here is a list of some of the bugs I have encountered while playing Jedi Outcast with my Voodoo card. Some of them are small and some very big bugs.

(1) There is no sky, at all. It is all just white.

(2) There are no thumbnail images when I save a game.

(3) In multiplayer, when I host a server, I can see no text. This only happens when I am hosting a server.

(4) I cannot load some saved games. It says they are saved but when I try to open them, I have to manually restart or turn off the computer. I have tried loading them many times but it never works.

(5) I cannot open ANY saved games after dying. No quicksaved games or checkpoints either. I have to exit the game and open it again. I sometimes also have this problem when I have not died and am just trying to reload a game.

I know there are more small bugs but I can't think of them now. But, my question is: has anyone experienced these problems and if so, how did you fix them? Also, I would like to know from someone at Raven if any patches are coming out to fix these bugs. Thanks

After buying games like AvP2, and Civ3, and now JK2 (DF3, whatever). I am starting to relieze companies are releasing games so that the general public can BETA TEST it for them.

I'm going to put $20 bucks on the table that this game is going to get 5+ patches by the end of the year.

I long for the day when lucasarts made a game with a single, stupid multiplayer patch that was released the day the game shiped. Oh, that's right, LEC stopped making PC games. :D

heres exactly what you need do do too run a voodoo based card

(16mb or better) in JO, MOH, Q3 etc.. it works for all of em...

Try using Wicked GL

You can find it here...

http://www.wicked3d.com/products/wickedgl/default.htm/

After you install WickedGL and quake3 drivers if nessicary, open Wglgames.cfg in wordpad. Half way down or so you'll see the line

"Quake 3",quake3.exe,opengl32.dll

DON'T CHANGE THE NAME IN QUOTES. Changing the name will prevent WickedGL's installer from running.

Change the line to...

"Quake 3",jk2sp.exe,opengl32.dll

Save, and exit. Install the GL drivers using the control panel

( It still says Quake 3 in the game box, but it will really work for Jedi Knight Outcast)

------------------------------------

AFTER INSTALLING WICKED GL

Also if the sky and the gamma is still messed up then do this...

You will need to open the jk2mpconfig.cfg file in Wordpad and change a few numbers.

This file is located in: "\Jedi Outcast\GameData\base"

To fix the sky, find the line that reads:

seta r_fastsky "1"

Change the 1 to a 0 and the sky should reappear.

Now, to fix the gamma, find the line that reads:

seta r_ignorehwgamma "0"

Change the 0 to a 1 and the gamma should be normal.

Save the file, load JO and you should be good to go.

I don't have a problem running any of those games. It's just JK2.

If I remember, nVidia bought 3dfx, and from 3dfx's website before it closed, it said nVidia was to continue to help support 3dfx cards.

U R correct thrawn...

Nvidia DID say that they would continue ongoing support for 3dfx cards and drivers...

And so far they have done a WHOLE LOT OF NOTHING

Not 1 updated drivers release...

Not 1 question replied to...

Not even a friggin web page with LINKS to 3rd party 3dfx support

Hmm....

They kinda remind you all of Microsuck ?

It reminds me why I run Linux for everything

except playing games and web browsing...

I tried everything that Exar Kun explained in his post, but the game screen is still fuzzy looking, like the quality of the picture isnt good at all. The game starts with a 3dfx screen then goes to WickedGL drivers and the menu is all fuzzy, is there a way to fix this?

goto voodoofiles.com, they have 3rd party updated voodoo drivers to download...i hear that most of them are by former 3dfx employees who worked on the cards, so they're pretty reliable. the one i got was CA's voodoo3 win/9x 1.08...it fixed *some* problems, but created some others, all which were fixed with the wickedgl...which you should try first before anything else..the blurryness has not been fixed, but i find that no big deal (still readable, fine w/me)
