geronimo27
I've been running a JK2 server on Win2k for the past few days, and today all of a sudden I have experienced some server crashing weirdness, with no real evidence for the crash (nothing in the logs that I would call evidence that is). I am using the No-CD Win Server .exe put out by Raven, but I later found out these crashes occur with the normaljk2mp.exe. The past few days the server has been very stable, but today I came home from work, jumped on the server for a couple of hours, and then was disconnected. I looked over at my server monitor and the server window was nowhere to be found. So I started the server again, and after a bunch of people joined, about 10 minutes later the server window just disappeared. I then rebooted the server and intended on watching the screen to make sure a player wasn't forcing a crash somehow, but as soon as the server started, before any players joined, the window again just disappeared. To make a long story short, this happened rat random intervals over and over, even after rebooting my computer, trying the normal jk2mp.exe, and nuking my log files (thinking they might be too filled up). Anyone else had this happen to them, and if so, anyone know what is going on? Also, does anyone know of a good app that wil auto restart the server if it crashes? Any help would be appreciated! Awol
Happens to all of us on the win32 box (not sure about the linux people) I run 2 servers on 2 different computers and the one thing I notice is when one server goes down the other one does as well. Can anyone else with multiple servers confirm this. (Yes I got lucky and saw it happen once doubt I would ever again) Awol
Desslock
Linux is 9 out of 10 a much better option for servers. One of the pluses is that its free and you dont need to worry about licensing crap that comes with Windows
MatrixCPA
If the error is a segmentation fault, there's a good chance it's somebody exploiting the server vulnerability that exists in the current version of Outcast. It's possible to run a script that will download the master list and crash ever server on it in a matter of moments. I've watched my server crash from the console a couple of times and have seen the result. I've also tested the vulnerability out myself and found it to be 100% effective. For now, all you can do is run a script to restart the server automatically when it's taken down. Hopefully, they will be releasing a patch some time soon. Maybe it'll fix the diableForcePower bugs as well.

dave77034
I've noticed my Linux server dies for no apparent reason from time to time. It's not a segmentation fault and the log files don't indicate any problems. Others in this forum have said its probably because the Ravensoft heartbeat server is unavailable. Does anyone know if there is a way to run a private dedicated internet server without heartbeats to ravensoft?

kerosene31
My win32 server has been crashing on me as well. It shouldn't be a log file problem as I think the log only gets 2mb then it starts clearing out the old stuff. Do you get any errors in the log file? I ask because when I crash I see nothing in the log file. Each time it happens, the server window just was gone. No error messages. It seems to happen at random intervals, although I haven't been able to keep my server running for more than 24 hours it seems.
geronimo27
kerosene31 - those are the same exact symptoms my server has. At one point I nuked all my logs and restarted the server. The server created a new log file, but crashed and wrote nothing in the log (it was empty after serv crash).
kerosene31
Perhaps everyone could post in a new thread the time and date when their servers crash to see if there is any pattern? Or do we just wait for a patch??
Mavrick063
Wait for a patch? that's half the problem. No one from Raven or lucasforums will confirm if there working on a these problems and going to have a patch soon or not. Hell they can't even come up with a universal server setup config for people that i can see. everyone has to butcher the elite forces cfg file to get this thing to run half decent. Certain questions that are asked go ignored. I'm thinking of takeing down my server and tossing the disk in the wasted alot of money file. Sorry for the flame but i get really upset when i spend over 50.00 on a game that don't work right and very little support in areas NEEDING addressed.
