The light stance will block a great deal more, but the problem is if you're hit by someone using a strong stance when you're using light he will just slice right through your block. So to answer your question, normally it does block more, but be careful and watch your opponent's swing to see if he's using a heavy stance because then you will have to parry instead of block.
