3 quesions dealing with the Scenario Editor.

 

 

 

1) For a challenge, I pit myself against 2,3, or even 4 computer enemies. I want them to ally with themselves so I am the only one they are attacking. But no matter how I arrange the diplomacy in the scenario editor, or selcting and locking teams in the misson editor, they inevitably begin attacking each other. What am I doing wrong, or is this a bug?

 

2) speaking of bugs, again in the scenario editor, I place the command center and 3 workers in one corner, and I put them near a s**t load of carbon, with a generous amount of Nova and Ore near by. I do the same with my side. I keep the shroud and fog off when I play a scenario and I noticed at some point as I'm building up my forces that the computer team just stops. I see an animal nursery and a few prefab shelters built, and they just stand there. Why????

 

3) I wanted to try something challenging so I created a Death Star vs Hoth scenario. On one side of the map I created a Death Star surface, and on the other half I created Hoth. In the middle, I create the Starfield to seperate the two. In the starfield I created 4 islands (asteroids) 2 with Nova and 2 with Ore. I gave each side a command center, 3 workers, and 2 transports to get to the asteroids. Again I kept shroud and fog off, and just like in problem "2" the computer workers stood idle. They didn't use the transports nor did they explore the map. So I edited it further by placing a few crystals and ore near the computers command center. I thought maybe a bug in the system woudn't allow them to use the shuttle until they were at the appropriate tech level. Well, this got them moving and they did attain tech 3, and began building x-wings, but to my disappointment, they still never used the transports. What's more, the x-wings seemed to be flying around exploring their half of the map, as if Shroud and fog were still activated. When the x-wing got to the edge of Hoth/starfield, it went no further. The spaceships apparently couldnt go into space, although mine had no problem. Again, what gives????

I'm not sure how to deal with those problems. the problem i had was the opposite. I wanted the troops to wait for me to attack, it was a hoth mission, but they rushed out all of their units as soon as the game started.

 

However, i do know that the AI doesn't like to use transports, as i have never seen them use one, and you might want to try turning up the difficulty level to hardest or hard, that might make them more productive.

I have never had problems with the computers not teaming up on random maps or scenarios when assigning them to the same team number and locking teams. Are you doing something in the scenario editor that may be messing that up?

 

On moderate and hard difficulty, the computer sometimes just never builds any villagers and gets stuck. I haven't had any difficulty with this on hardest. I start the computer with zero for all resources and no workers in the scenario editor, since they will get a boatload of resources to start with from the hardest setting. The extra build time for the workers give them normal advancement times and they seem to play smarter later in the game than on hard difficulty. I also deny them a scout, so I don't get rushed until about 20 minutes into the game.

 

The AI doesn't use transports well at all. I have seen them send a few down the river, but only after they walked to the destination first. On sea maps, most of their units will never leave their island because they won't transport them. Because sea is treated differently from starfield (no ships), they probably never created pathfinding AI to handle the starfield.

Perhaps you need to bring this to the Developer Attention and they may tell you the steps in order to do what you wish to do.
