I returned game

Lol you returned it and now you're still able to play it. Just like all those other people who returned it. I can't believe how stupid stores are. In my country they won't return it because the game has to be in the store package or it has to be broke.

NOW THAT'S SMART

No. I am honest. I uninstalled it first. Please don't turn this into a warez debate.

To keep with the honest line...I admit I am an addict so I went back and re-bought it (I am so pathetic:().

This time same result, no graphic card detected (gforce3ti200) but now I can play the SP and MP in safe mode. I will take that as a compromise.

Don't ask me why its different now, nothing has changed, but I am not screwing with it. I am playing and thats all that matters.

FYI

Anyone who has an nVidia card like a TNT2, GeForce anything, etc. should note that the recommended driver version is the 23.11 drivers, not the detonators listed as the "most current" on nVidia.com.

When you go to the drivers page, you need to click on "Driver Archive" to get to the 23.11's.

Direct links:

Win 95/98/ME:

http://205.158.109.140/Windows/23.11/Win9x-Me_23.11.exe

Win2k/XP:

http://205.158.109.140/Windows/23.11/Win2K-XP_23.11.exe

The new detonators have problems with drawing black skies in the game as well as other graphical weirdness. A list of all video cards supported and their recommended driver versions are in your Jedi Outcast/install directory in the trouble.rtf file...the troubleshooting guide.

Thanks!

Yeah I tried many different drivers. Its working now in safe mode so I am satisfied for now. I dont know how i will react when i get to the swamp level, which i understand bogs down the game and since I am in rendering I expect major slow downs. But i can always jump past the level and come back to it when a fix is in place.

In short , I am playing and happy.

I tried that driver on that link.

That's odd. Do you have problems with any other 3D games? Since DX is on the game CD, I assume this game is using DX. That being the case, the developer doesn't have to do anything special to access the video card, it simple gets it from an enumerated list in the DX libraries. There may be a DX problem with your machine. Have you run DxDiag and verified that DX is installed properly and there are no problems? I know i've had driver issues in the past where certain aspects (like the hardware 3D acceleration) wouldn't be detected by DirectX.

The thing is, in today's DX world, the game dev really doesn't have to worry about "detecting" your card, like they did in the dos days. The problem may very well lie elsewhere.

I have XP so I run DirectX8.1. I suspect its an issue with DirectX but Im not a developer so can't offer any reasons why except massive trial and error, and deductive reasoning. I could be way off too.

I checked DXDiag and Msinfo, all is well.

Ah. XP seems to be a general pain in the butt for many people. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if your problem is an XP/DX/Video Driver thing, and not a JK thing.

Man, I'm glad I steered clear of XP... ;)

If its an XP thing then its not worth the trouble. I absolutely refuse to degrade my computer(ie older drivers or OS) for any software. Going backwards is not feasible.

I suspect its compatibility with DirectX8.1. the game was written for 8.0.
