[TE]DarthBob
Created and modified your dedicated.cfg file, but the changes are not taking effect? You've changed the settings to make it password protected, or enabling/disabling Voting, but the old settings are sticking? This has always been a tricky issue with the Elite Force dedicated server and I just ran into it with JKO. I applied the same fix and now my JKO dedicated server runs as directed. 1. Make sure you have a server configuration text file that you created. I'm NOT refering to the file JK2MPCONFIG.cfg file that is already in the BASE folder. Give it a name such as dedicated.cfg. The examples contents listed in the Dedicated FAQ thread work fine. 2. Make a backup copy of the JK2MPconfig.cfg file and save it to a safe locaiton. Then edit the JK2MPCONFIG.cfg with notepad and deleted everything. Save the file. 3. Mark the file JK2MPCONFIG.cfg as read only. That's it. Every time you change a setting in your dedicated.cfg, the server will launch with the up to date settings you wish to use. Now you can create differnt dedicated configuration files, one for FFA, CTF, FFA password protected, dual, without the prevoius settings causing problems. Hope this helps. MatrixCPA
As long as your config resets all the necessary values, that's really not necessary. The main reason people get goofed up is because they put seta g_password "blah" in their config and then delete it rather than change it to "". Thus, the last used setting is reused. I find that a "complete" config file makes all the difference in the world. And, if you're not really changing anything around....you can get away with a simple config. I prefer solutions that don't "override" a designed system function unless that's the only alternative.
[TE]DarthBob
I wouldn't make such a post without actually running into this problem and resetting the config values.

I must just be incredibly lucky to never have run into it. However, I cannot dispute that the problem doesn't exist. Still, I would at least state that all other reasonable avenues should be pursued prior to such a forceful tactic--and really pursued. Frequenty, inexperienced admins can make a simple mistake and overlook something. We've all done it. I'd rather they read this thread and understand that what you describe should be a last resort rather than a quick fix. Unless you really know what you're doing, such action could cause more trouble than harm in the long run.
[TE]DarthBob
That's reasonable. But when switching between different game types, you will not always catch every setting to unset. What I describe is not extreme. It's just a clean way to run your server problem free. I will attempt to find the related post in the Raven boards. Another example is map rotation. I was having CTF maps cycle through my FFA game mode before I locked down the jk2mpconfig.cfg file.
Novus
If only there was a variable to define the default server.cfg to use per process. No more need for JK2mpconfig.cfg. I really don't see a reason for it to begin with. The undefined cvars and svars should be set to default not whatever happend to be in some standard config file buried in a hidden directory. Not to get off on another subject, but putting files like that and logs in a hidden directory is just annoying. Not to mention the documentation is wrong about its name. MatrixCPA
I guess I'm so accustomed to the servers putting files in the user's home directory inside hidden folders that I always assume they are there. *shrug* Once you learn that they are there, it's really not that troublesome. I'll admit that better documentation would go a long way.
