im having problems with mine also...

I had it working last night with the DMZ on, but I dont want to have to turn it on and off everytime I want to host a game.

So I am trying to figure out whats the deal with the forwarding port crap. I have forwarded ports 28060-28062 with both tcp and udp, and I have also forwarded ports 28070-28081 with both tcp and udp. I have also done the same thing with port triggering and I have disabled block wan request so people can ping my internal address, and none of this seems to work. I have 2 computers, so I use the better one to set up the server and use the other to check the ingame serverspy, and I dont see it. I do see it though on my lan, so I dont really know whats the deal.

If I cant figure it out I will just use dmz but I want to try to get this crap figured out. Any help also would be appreciated.

Here's what i did. after my clients got the parse disconnect message and now it works with no problem.

I forwarded port 28060 to 28060

I forwarded port 28061 to 28061

I forwarded port 28062 to 28062

I forwarded port 28070 to port 28081

I forwarded port 26000 to port 29000

I forwared these ports like this and this seems to be working rather then just specify the range in one section. I have the latest firmware and forwarded each of the ports to a single ip address 192.168.1.8, because this is the ip for my pc. I fowarded both the tcp and udp packets. I ran my server sucessfully for 24 hours and it shows up in the in game server. I am running windows xp. I also have people on the private lan connect using the lan rather then the internet option to the server. I had no problems with anyone connecting on the lan or on the internet.

my dhcp is enabled for up to 100 users and I DONT have an ip address in the dmz field.

hope this helps. if you send me your email address I can email you screens

also to join the game what I do is launch the dedicated server, no fancy scripts, just the in game host options and I choose dedicated internet server. Once i have the dedicated server launched i join the game for the same pc and launch another instance of jediknight 2 and select multiplayer and join through the lan option.

no problems

by the way my email is leelink@tampabay.rr.com

ok leelink... I thought You had solved my problem.

I had never tried that port forwarding scheme.

So I tried it

In house (on the same network) I could see the server when searching for internet games... It even showed up on my external IP.

Couldn't reach anyone on IM (and some reborn were in need of dismembering) so I let it go there.

Today I get to the office and check qtracker

There is a Greyed out listing for:

New Server with NO game data (server type etc...) Listed with my IP

Tried /rcon to it... no response.... So

It knows that there is a JKII server there It JUST can't talk to it!

Well, if you got it to show up in the in game browser your at least half way there. I not really sure I understand the problem your having now though. If you need someone to test it just let me know when it will be up and i can help test it.

Can’t help too much with the router it self as my brother set it up. But what I can tell you is if you are using Win2k then that maybe your problem. The game may not be working when trying to get it to connect to the net via the game to refresh servers say, I don’t know the reason why it don’t work in Win2k but it don’t, I had 98 until 4 days ago then put 2000 on and I had not even touched my router for 3 months so nothing there had changed so I knew it was working. I found that out of 3 quake3 games I had only Return to castle Wolfenstein worked and I still don’t know why to this day. So all I did was set the port I had set up on the router to the wolf config file and copy it across to the jk2 folder and renamed it to what my jk2 config file is called (after backing up the original) then loaded the game. All keys were not registered but when I clicked on search for game servers it worked!

If you don’t have Wolfenstein then try and find someone who has. As It just seems to really not like Win2k

Also just as a general rule try updating your router I think it’s the firmware?

This may not be your router have a look around for yours: http://www.linksys.com/support/support.asp?spid=1

Holy crap, guys! I ONLY have port 28070 on my Linksys forwarding to my server box (Windows 2000 Server) and it works fine. Here's my cfg:

Not that it makes any real difference, but just for the sake of completeness, the following lines in the config are unnecessary:

seta ui_ctf_timelimit "30"

seta ui_ctf_capturelimit "8"

vstr d1

Anything that starts with ui_ is a user interface setting. The vstr at the end of the config would normally start the custom rotation, which isn't being used here. Of course, commenting out the vstr d1 would make more sense than removing it since you have the rotations commented out rather than removed.'

This line doesn't seem properly formed:

seta g_logSync "0 1"

The setting is supposed to be either 0 or 1 (off/on). I'd guess that it's using the 0 since it's first. Either way, it should be shortened to 0 or 1 depending on what you want.

if you use Linux, don't put your comp in the dmz! I ran the server for a few days on my linux machine and tonight when i logged on to check how it was doing I noticed that 5 or 6 instnces of mingetty were running, which is an auto-login program. I certainly didn't open them, so the only explanation i can concieve is that it was somesort of hacker attack, unless this is some strange side effect of running the linux dedicated server.
