nanoscrew
I'm looking to put a server on a fat pipe, but the bigger the pipe the more i pay poer month. I'm looking at 384kbps, i'm wondering if that's enough. If not, is 512kbps enough? awesome pings not necessary, sv_maxrate can be low if necessary. just looking for something decent for me and my friends or maybe just for small clan matches, etc.
MatrixCPA
Just for comparison, I have a 14 player server that averages around 60k/sec outbound when full using maxrate 8000. That translates to about a 500kbps connection (1/3 T1).
Novus
I have 36 players between 5 servers running. sv_maxrate 25000 (most people only use 10000 though) The server averages 630kbit/sec upload and 420kbit/sec download on a weekly basis. It can peak to ~1mbit/sec upload and 600kbit/sec download. You should be able to get away with 384 for a smallish server (10-12 players). I'd be more worried about the cost for traffic. nanoscrew
thanks for the info. i wasn't planning on a big server anyways. bandwidth aint cheap ... maybe i should siphon some of my workplace's bandwidth.... they've got a half a t1 just sitting there for web browsing.... hehe fat chance of that. even though i am the network admin lol. not worth the risk. peace
