sinistervw Posted April 10, 2002 Posted April 10, 2002 ok something needs to be done with the whole skin issue on a server....like were the server needs the skin for it to work, and stuff like that!
Valdarious Posted April 10, 2002 Posted April 10, 2002 This has been an issue ever since quake2, I dont think there is a way to connect to a server that doesnt have skins and for you to see them at the same time.
MatrixCPA Posted April 10, 2002 Posted April 10, 2002 I believe if you connect to an "unpure server" (sv_pure 0) that you can use skins that the server does not have installed. However, other players won't see you in that skin unless they have it installed also. Thus, the issue isn't so much that the server doesn't have the skin as much as that the other players don't. What's the point of having a fully custom, self-constructed skin when nobody sees it--except you if you're running in 3rd person mode.
[TE]DarthBob Posted April 10, 2002 Posted April 10, 2002 and think about it, you want the servers to be restricted to the standard skins and those created and used by the public. The last thing you want is some yahoo to come in with an arms only skin and have an unfair advantage.....Ugh...bad example. Well, that's a bad example since the arms only model is already available. Which I would like to know how to remove off my server. Can I remove that and the headless skin?
MatrixCPA Posted April 10, 2002 Posted April 10, 2002 Those skins exist in the base packages to allow for dismemberment. However, some people like to use them in general. I don't believe they can be removed without switching to an unpure server which introduces other problems. One option, as a player, is to use force player models so that all players use the same skin from your perspective. It's an ugly solution, but one possibility. The admin bot I'm working on can recognize what model a player is using....I suppose I could set it so that it would auto-kick anyone not using an "approved" skin. Which skins are approved would be set by the admin. Hmm.....
