stiaan
I reckon the third person image of Kyle Katarn is kinda lame. Is it possible to import a skin into the single player game? Thanks heaps for your time.
Mr.Pickles
... but I havent been able to get it to work properly yet. Darth Valinor posted the following on another thread: It's easy. 1. Open the assets0.pk3 file and extract the models\player\kyle folder and the folder for the character you want to use instead of kyle. 2. Now, go to the kyle folder that you just extracted and delete everything in it. 3. Open the other folder you extracted(whoever you want to be instead of kyle) and copy everything in it to the kyle folder you emptied out. 4. Keep the kyle folder, but delete the other folder. 5. Create a new .pk3 file containing the models\player\kyle folder you have been messing with. WinRAR is the best program for this. Make sure the path is kept, so that when you open the .pk3 you made it should have the models\player\kyle path. 6. Name this .pk3 something that does not start with an 'A'. This is because .pk3 files are loaded in alphabetical order, with the latest loaded taking precedence, so if you named it albert.pk3, it would not work because assets0.pk3 would be loaded after it and would overwrite the changes you made. 7. Copy your .pk3 file to the gamedata\base folder. 8. Run the game and enjoy! Note: The voice will still be the same as regular SP, so this will be rather strange if you replace kyle with a female. Also, if you want to use a skin other than the default you will have to rename the skin file you want to use(for example model_default_darth_maul.skin) to model_default.skin(make sure to rename or delete the original model_default.skin first). And while you are in the game, bring down the console(shift + ~) and type sabercolor <color> where <color> is the color you want(red, yellow, orange, blue, green, or purple). ... But I keep getting the same problems no matter how i try to change it. The new skin loads fine ( I put Tavion's skin in... I wanted to see Tavion and Jan kiss at the end... I know, I'm perverted that way... ), but the lightsaber sticks out of her chest or thigh and is immobile even though she makes the swinging motions. I can throw the lightsaber, but when it comes back it firmly lodges in her thigh or chest again. I've tried it with different skins as well, and get the same problems. I've even tried replacing the original Kyle files in the assets0.pk3 file with other skins and it still wont work properly. Oh, and the game crashes back to windows if I get shot or if I kill someone. Anyone out there have a solution?
Alfred
Yep, that's what happened to me as well. I wish that Darth Valinor would reply again if he's made it work! But he has said nothing about it since that post. Where Are You, Darth???
Lazarus-Spike
I use the kieran halcyon skin in single player, just renamed them all and adjusted the keiran_default.skin, changed its name to kyle_default skin and basically its the same with all the others, takes about 10 mins then pack it as kyle.pk3 and whack it in your base folder for example all the folders in the pack will be changd to models\players\kyle and as I said above kyle_deafult.skin kyle_torso_default I think thats right if that doesnt make sense say and I'll try and explain it better, lol
Lazarus-Spike
it wouldnt let me edit my post grrrr, also teh lightsaber problem was a doozy, happened to me, I then went on an unpure server and selected that skin, it then had the lightsaber the right way round, I then went to play single plyer and the problem had sorted itself out
Alfred
Lazarus, hehe, PLEASE explain it better. Did you extract the folders first? Did you have to do anything to the other folder? Or did you just simply renamed everything in the Kyle folder? A step-by-step if you please? It'd be appreciated. Thanks.
Kijinn
The game truly behaves weird when you start manipulating Kyle´s skins for SP. I did attempt to use the Jeditrainer instead of Kyle (who just looks far too wimpy for a jedi)...with the strange side effect of having him hold the saber in his left hand rather than the right (more obvious with a turned-off saber). I would not mind much...but when he throws it, he is stretching out his right arm...not his left. That looks distracting. Jeditrainer does not hold the saber in his left hand in a MP game...So why does he do it in SP ?!? If anyone has an understanding in these mechanics which aid to our confusion, please lift the blanket from our heads, so we may see the light (and a face other than Kyle´s) ! Raven should have taken a look at the Dark Forces video-interludes. Back then, Kyle has been sporting a far more respectable appearance. Reminding of Dolph Lundgren rather than Gordon Freeman (!). I assume in Ravensoft´s next game we will be forced to play a Danny DeVito or Ned Flanders in a superhero type game...Gah !
Nespis
what i've found is that the only reason the lightsaber is in a weird place when you play single player, is that i've loaded a save game in which i used the kyle skin. Other than that everything works fine for me, i use the keiran halcyon skin some one made (very nice) and all i do is load the level i want with 'map yavin_final' or whatever the map name is called. And just to clear things up i did exactly what that quote says in the second post.
CrevisX9
okay mr. pickles i did everything you said and it did not work, i still have kyle's skin, does the new pk3 have to have only the kyle folder, or do i keep the rest of the folders in it.
Mr.Pickles
... what I wound up doing was copying and pasting the original kyle skin into a different folder on my hard drive ( so that I still had a copy of the original ), and then deleted everything in the kyle folder and pasting in the skin files that I wanted. It worked fine except for the Saber problems. I'm gonna try restarting a new game to see if that fixes my problems. I'll let you know when I find out. Deboze
HAAAAAAAAAAAA HAAAA!!! I put the new jonathanodell, darthmaul skin in to replacye kyle and the lightsabre is stuck to his knee!!!! HA! It points downward along his leg so when I walk a little lightsabre trail follows me along the floor. This has got to be the funniest think I've ever seen in a long while. heheheheheh, I guess if I jump on people it could hurt them but guns work normall now (they're jsut stuck to his shin LOL!) JediGhost[SITH]
How exactly do you keep the same file path? (model\players\kyle)? I haven't tried it with WinRar, but putting the files back into the *.pk3 I usually get a blank path name. EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out! Here's what I did: 1. Copy all of kyle's skins from the assets0.pk3 file to a folder on a drive called \models\ (EXAMPLE: G:\models\). 2. It should automatically place it in subfolders (EXAMPLE: Extracting to G:\Models\ would place the files in G:\models\models\players\kyle) 3. Extract your wanted skin to the same destination (EXAMPLE: If you put Kyle's to G:\Models\, extract the new guy's to G:\Models\), It will be in the same folder, but instead of going to Kyle's folder, it will go to it's skin's name folder. 4. Go to Kyle's folder and delete all his files 5. Go to the new guy's, move all his files to where kyle's were. 6. Delete the new guy's old folder (Keep Kyle's) 7. Go to Windows Explorer and go to the drive (Example: G:\) and right click the folder name from that drive. 8. Add that folder to a ZIP. Click New, and where it says the file name, type in a name (Any Letter under A in the alphabet) and make it a *.pk3 extension (EXAMPLE: Newskin.pk3 It will be a zip file saved in pk3 format) 9. Load the zip (AKA, Pk3 file) and make sure all the new skin files are there, and the path reads "models\player\kyle" 10. Place the new pk3 in your GameData\Base folder and play the game! The reason why you have to put it in a models folder is because it will extract it to models\models\player\kyle. When you add the first models folder to a zip, it'll show up as "models\player\kyle" in the zip.. Don't ask me why it cuts off the first models folder, but it does.. And it works. If you need any further explaining just ask.. I'll post here if any1 doesnt understand
moore+
http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42407 You can use this guy, it's still kyle, works fine, looks, uh, more darthy. (My idea of how kyle would look had he gone darkside in jk1 and followed that path up to the jk2 time period)
Alfred
Jedighost, what I can't undrstand is how to extract the folders using Winzip. I just get the list of individual files with no inducations of what folders they relate to. Anyway, I used WinRAR to extract the folders then followed your instructions to the letter. But the new model STILL have the lightsaber glued to a stationary position. How did you avoid this?
JediGhost[SITH]
I don't know how to avoid it, I don't know what causes it!... When you load the assests0.pk3 file in WinZip, click PathName to arrange the files in order of paths. Find the kyle files (path is models\players\kyle), extract ALL of Kyle's files to a folder called \models\ (example: G:\models\), which, in turn, will place them in \models\models\players\kyle. Do the same for the new skin, erase all of kyle's files, move all of the new guy's files to Kyle's folder, then go to the main drive the \models\ is located on (example: if you put them to G:\Models\, which is actually G:\models\models\players\kyle, go to the G:\) Once viewing the drive, right click on the first models folder. After right clicking, select "Add to Zip". Click New, type in a file name and type in .pk3 at the end. (example: go the G:\, right click the first models folder, click Add to Zip, click New, type in "newmodels.pk3") Click Add, hopefully the NEW Kyle skin(s) will appear, with the pathname of "models\players\kyle", it cuts off the first models folder because it adds everything in the FIRST models folder, to the zip. If your new .pk3 file is showing up with no pathname, you did the folders incorrectly. NOTE: I didn't use Winrar, I have no idea how to use it, if your using it, I can't help you, so don't use it EDIT: Let me get more specific with extracting the assets0.pk3 file... Load the assets0.pk3 file in Winzip. Click the pathname button so the files are in pathname alphabetical order Now (looking at the pathname names) find "models\players\kyle" select ALL the files that go the path "models\players\kyle" and extract them to a \models\ folder on a drive. (Another example: C:\Models\) and hopefully it will place them in C:\models\models\players\kyle.. If your computer does not do it automatically, then, you guessed it, place them there manually . Now find your new skins pathname (I use Shadowtrooper). So, on the assets0.pk3 file, find ALL the files for the pathname "models\players\shadowtrooper" (example). Extract them to the same place (Example: C:\Models\) Which will place the shadowtrooper in C:\models\models\shadowtrooper, right next to Kyle's. Go to Kyle's folder, delete ALL his files. Move the shadowtrooper's files into Kyle's old files folder. DELETE Shadowtrooper's folder. Now, In Windows Explorer, click the drive you put the models folder onto. C:\, in this case. From there, right click the models folder you see. Inside the models folder you right click, SHOULD be the addres \models\players\kyle, which is what you want. After right clicking the models folder, add to zip. Click New, type in a name with the extension *.pk3, first letter being beyond the letter A in the alphabet. Click Add, and with any luck, the new kyle's skin files will appear in the zip (AKA, PK3) with the pathname "models\players\kyle". Once again, if no pathname appears, your folder paths were wrong. .. It's pretty easy once you get the idea... I've even started replacing everyone skin models NOTE AGAIN: If you replace someone's skin, that model on Multiplayer will be the new replaced. So when you play multiplayer, I suggest moving the modified .pk3 file out of the gamedata/base folders.
Alfred
Jedighost, thanks for the great instructions. Unfortunately, the saber problem perissts, I guess unless one of Raven's programmers is willing to wade in here and provide answers it's not going to work. JediGhost[SITH]
After you added your new kyle skins to the new .pk3, was the pathname blank or did it say "models\players\kyle"? If it was blank, and the saber was glithched, then the blank pathname is whats causing the problem... Meaning everyone who is getting a glitchy saber has an incorrect pathname in their .pk3. After you add the skins to the pk3, check and make sure ALL the pathnames for kyle's new skin say "models\players\kyle", if they dont, don't even bother testing it out, it won't work. My guess for your problem is that your extracting the skins from the .pk3 file to wrong folders. After you extract the skins, make sure they are located at \models\models\players\. That's 2 models folders. And when your ready to add them to the PK3, add the first models folder to the zip. Which should be the one from the main drive. So inside the models folder you right click will be models\players\kyle..
Alfred
The pathnames and directories are all as you indicated. The saber problem remains, however. I really do not know why.
