newbie problems... various things :-)

hi all,

i'm a bit of a newbie here, and seem to be running into a number of small problems.

1) i re-assign keys on the control page, but when i start the game up again, its reset to default. i've tried altering the config file directly but it still starts the game with all defaults, including the player name.

2) i can't seem to get any of the console tweeks to work. e.g when i type in 'devmap' it gives me the error "can't find map maps/.bsp" . what am i doing wrong?

3) as posted elsewhere on the board i set up a sabre.cfg file which binds all the sabre duelling moves to the keypad. when i exec the sabre.cfg weird things happen. the first time i tried it if you pressed any of the keypad keys you would go into a crouch and stay there. last time i tried it it simply did nothing!

 

i hope someone has some suggestion for what i'm doing wrong....

Well for number two...........its "devmapall" or "helpusobi 1" in single player, and "devmap <map name here>" in multiplayer.

1} make sure you are NOT playing in safe mode. go to start/programs/lucas arts/JKII outcast/ PLAY STAR WARS JKII JEDI OUTCAST.

 

3} Maybe it has something to do with possibly being in SAFE MODE( see above) or your binds could be wrong.

 

Make sure you are not in safe mode and/or look over your binds again.

so devmap should work in MP then? my problem is that it doesn't....

 

yes, i am playing in safe mode. i was wondering what the difference was between "safe" and errr "un-safe" mode.....

 

my problem is (like many others by the look of it) that i can only run the game in safe mode. running it in normal mode and i get opengl errors.... i'm using a nvidia riva tnt2 and i've tried a couple of the tweaks suggested elsewhere but with no luck

 

so what exactly are the limitations in safe mode?

I'm not sure(besides you can't save the configs). I'd guess very basic low-lvl video options. I didn't see anything about it in the manual. Try the read me and troubleshooting on the disc. Also, if u haven't already, search the forums for solutions. I'm pretty sure the openGl errors have been discussed. sorry I couldn't be more help.
