rivmin
Hi. I run several JK2 games, on 2 different physical servers, with different IP. They use axactly the same cfg...only the serverinfo is changed. They both sends heartbeat to masterserver. All servers show up in game-browsers....but only games running on server-1 is showing up in the in-game browser Server-1 was online 3 days before I put up server-2.....is the master-server maybe 'full' ? -- Btw...where does all the 'out-game' browsers get their info from ? -- //Master Servers seta sv_master1 "masterjk2.ravensoft.com" seta sv_master2 "" seta sv_master3 "" seta sv_master4 "" seta sv_master5 ""
MatrixCPA
The out-of-game browsers get their info from the in-game master server. So, most of the time the problem is that the player has set a filter and doesn't realize it--such as not full/not empty or specified a particular gametype. Well...I dont think it's the filter in this case. I have compared the number of servers that the in-game-browser and the out-game-browser is locating. The out-game-browser is finding between 900 and 1100 servers, depending on time of day. The in-game-browser can locate approx 500 servers. I have also discovered that there is a file called 'servercache.dat' in the game-dir. This file has allways the size of 342 KB (350.224 bytes), even after a delete and new server-list discovered. I think there is a limitation in the amount of servers the in-game-browser will show to the player. Anyone knows how to remove this limitation ? I have been searching for some settings on the client, but cannot locate it. If it's made by design this limitation, then I would like to know, what parameters the in-game-browser is using to select the 500 out of 1000 servers. Is it server-uptime, number of heartbeat recieved, popularity or what ? Or am I totally wrong about this ?
MatrixCPA
I'm not privy to the inner workings of the in-game browser. If there is such a limitation, I think it's a bit lame. Call it, server discrimination! Hmm. I wonder how tough it would be to try and find a common thread with all the servers NOT in the in-game browser that are in the others. rivmin
My servers are running FFA. Maybe I could force the servers to be located by the in-game-browser, if I changed gametype to one that is not so common...I will try this when I come home from work :-) Another thing I could try out, is to remove the timestamp I am putting on the servers on start-up.....maybe the master-server thinks my servers are unstable, because I restart servers once a day. -- Could someone please count the amount of servers discovered by the in-game-browser, to find out if my theory is holding water ? My client allways max's at 500-550 servers, even if I set the filters to 'all'. -- If I should choose parameters on what 500 servers the client should present to me....then I would choose 'ping' as nr
