Invisible skin - hack or legit?

There was a guy on my server yesterday using a skin that only revealed his hands and his saber. My server is set to pure and I haven't installed any additional skins to the server - somebody mentioned that there were hidden skins within the game. I didn't kick/ban the guy because I found it vaguely amusing, but if it starts to get out of hand, I'd like to know if there is a way to stop it short of banning anyone who uses it

 

It was suggested to me that I force it to use the same player model, but since I hate work arounds and I find everyone using the same skin rather dull, that's not going to be an option.

 

Any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem?

Not a hack, and not really legit. I think it's an oversight of the programmers. It's easy to do, but I won't get into that here. Anyhoo, AFAIK nothing we can do to stop it right now, aside from asking nicely then getting mean if they don't stop.

 

I'm sure this will be fixed in the first patch. I mean, how could they not fix it? =)

 

Edit: Oh yeah, if you didn't already know, the 'invisible' skin is actually the first person skin from SP.

Someone in my server mentioned that you can delete just that skin so noone can use it, since it's just running a server i would not miss having the skin... can anyone tell us how to do this or point us to a previous post about this since it's rather difficult to search for these things?

I was thinking along the lines of that too, but I was worried that it being a pure server, if I modified the pk3 files regular clients would be told their version was unpure and turned away!

So does anyone know if you can just remove the skin from the server's pk3 file to cut this crap out?

 

Really would love not to have to ban everyone who uses it..

I'm not sure if you can remove it from the pk3 and not suffer from other problems (purity, etc). However, as a client you can set g_forcemodels "1" and everyone will just have the same skin that you do. Sure, it's a bit lame as a workaround, but I'd rather have that than deal with someone with hands and a saber. I'm not sure if the setting will work from both server and client-side or just one or the other.

Pure servers work on minimums.

 

You CAN remove the model. Because connecting players will have one file more than the server, it will be ignored. Just like if a client had darth maul, but the server didnt.

 

Pure servers are pretty simple. You must AT LEAST have the exact files the server does. If you have extra, or more, they are ignored..

 

I have no idea what that model is called, offhand. But you CAN remove it..

Woohoo! I was hoping that would be the case.

 

I'll post the location and skin names this evening when I remove them.

 

To anyone wondering how to edit a pk3 file, I'm using winrar. Most compression progs will work. It's basically just a pak file, so any prog that supports them will do the trick.

Hey, on an unrelated note, there was a guy on my server about 30 mins ago called "Lick Clan Sucks" or something to that effect lol. He changed his name to something else shortly after. Anyone you know, Sebboh?
