DC3
Error message I get after failing to load from Doom_Comm mission/map says: Z_Malloc(): Failed to alloc -1059190784 bytes (TAG_BSP)!!! If this thread looks familiar, I posted something similar yesterday, but it died like a fish out of water. I changed the title of this thread hoping my error message may be a more recognizable problem. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Cheers. After finishing the search for Dessan's ship, and watching the Luke v Dessan battle, the game goes to a cut scene flick. After the movie is finished or I skip watching it completely, I get an error message about loading the following mission. I could be wrong, but I have tried to find the name of the next map and the best I have come up with is Doom_comm. Every time I go through the Movie of Dessans ship being launched, I get booted to desk top only to find a small JKII console screen with an error message. I don't have the exact message in front of me, but I will get it and post it here (it says something about bytes best I can recall). NOW HERE IS THE KICKER!!! I went into the Console cheat mode and tried to load the map using console commands. It still does the same thing and kicks me back to desk top. I then used the console to load the Mission after Doom_Comm, called Doom_detention, and it loaded perfectly. What is different about the Doom_Comm mission/map from all the other maps to this point??? I don't get it... I have pretty much narrowed it down to this specific map. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers and thanks. DC3
That's one gig of ram... Thanks for being a pain in the ass though. It was obviously a typo. If all you wanted to do was point out my system spec error, just say "You have an error in your system spec's. You might want to check it out.'' Cheers. PS. Can you even buy, just one meg of pc 2100 ddr??? Hmm...
Mertado
Have you tried reinstalling? It looks like a bad map file, but I've seen a similar complaint about this particular map in here somewhere.
DC3
I have considered re-installing, but wanted to see what I could dig up and decipher any information about this error message first. I would hate to have to re-install/start-over completely, but it may be necessary. I also, don't want to wipe my game completely and re-install, only to have it pop up a second time. Again, it appears to be just this particular map. I loaded the mission following this one, Doom_Detention, from the console and continued playing from that point forward. The one problem with this is though, I lost all my inventory items and weapons. I had to recollect everything but my Light sabre and the pistol blaster. I'm now in the Swamp levels, but am still without the Disruptor rifle and my night vision goggles (apperently you can only collect these in the earlier levels). I realize I could re-claim these through cheats, but I would prefer not to resort to that. Thanks for the advice though. A complete re-install may be inevitable, if I want to play that mission. Cheers.
Mertado
You could always back up your saved games before doing a reinstall.
DC3
True. I could back up the games, but I have had one or two instances of bad save files (Double Kyle problem) that were fixed, only by going to an earlier save. I suspect they would work just fine, but I'm not counting on it. I'm not completely convinced that a re-install will correct the issue, but I'm running out of options. It's nearing time to bite the bullet on a re-install. I was just, hoping to avoid this. I think the question I would like answered most isn't so much 'how to fix' my problem. What I really want to know is what kind of error is message is this and what's causing it: (Repeat): Z_Malloc(): Failed to alloc -1059190784 bytes (TAG_BSP) !!!!! Is it hardware/software? Is it a settings issue? Is it an XP issue? Is it video related or yada-yada-yada. I just want to know what's generating this.
Mertado
You know, I had that double Kyle problem once, but it was from something I did during the game, like trying to Alt-Tab or something similar. Wish I could remember what it was. Had to reload the saved game and it didn't happen again.

Chiles4
Just a thought but people have gotten some weird errors that were related to a corrupt install which nothing would fix except a re-install. So it may be that your error message may not be related to anything fixable...except for with a fresh install. The earlier posts about the z-malloc error were related to the hunkmegs parm. At least in other Q3 games, the z-malloc error seems to have been addressed successfully by increasing the hunkmegs config setting. Unfortunately, from the posts I've read, that hasn't worked with JO.
DC3
That pretty much tells all I wanted to know. Finding a fix for the problem was a long shot and I knew that. Thanks for filling in the blanks. You pretty much answered all my questions, and I will rest easier now. Thanks to Mertado as well. Cheers fellas.
