Versions and Bugs

Here's the problem. My friend has full body dismemberment (i.e. severe points at torso, head, arms, hands, legs, feet, and diagnol body) I have hand and arms. My version is 1.02a in his email he wrote that his was 1.02an. Initially we thought that this problem was related to the graphics detail. However now I'm curious if it is because of a different version. I purchased my copy of JKII at Wal-Mart, which as we all know is notorious in their censorship of graphic material. So is there a edited version of the game that Wal-Mart is retailing? I don't think this is the case, but I running out of ideas. After pumping the Texture Details to Very High I still did not have any luck and only receive a 10 minute loading time and about a .5 fps :D

To help any who reads this, I'm running the game on the following machine with the following setup.

P II 300 MHz

192 MB SDRAM

Creative Riva TNT2 32MB (Latest Drivers)

Mode: 800x600

Color Depth: 32-bit

Full Screen

Geometric Detail: High

Texture Detail: High

" Quality: 32-bit

" Filter: Bilinear

Detailed Shaders: On

Adv. Graphics-

Shadows Simple

Dynamic Lights: On

Wall Marks: On

My performance is actually really good except for large environments and fights with more than 5 enemies and then it slows down but most likely as a result of the audio. I also have the yellow skies problem on the mine level and periodically my bindings are reassigned and I have to exit the game (i.e. going to the main menu or the datapad) to correct the problem. Any help on any of these would help me very much. Thanks for your time.

Number one, get a new machine. I'm rather surprised a PII 300 even runs the game in software, let alone accelerated. Barring that, there are a few things you can look into:

The yellow sky textures can be fixed by dropping to video driver level 2.3.1.1. nVidia screwed up the latest ones.

As for bindings, you do realize that SP and MP have different binding sets, right? You have to configure each game seperately.

You didn't specify which sound card you have.

Dismemberment is, for the most part, turned off. I played through the entire SP game and the best I could do was cut off an arm. This was done on purpose to get a 'T' rating from the ESRB, and I don't think LucasArts was too keen on JK2 becoming a gib and bloodfest. Your friend is either pulling your chain, or he has the enyak_mutilator dismemberment mod installed (which apparently only works in SP, maybe on an unpure MP server), or he could have even made the modifications himself, it's pretty easy. There is no difference between the game sold at Wal-Mart and the game sold anywhere else. It's not feasible for a publisher to distribute seperate versions based on one store chain's tight-ass policies. In other words, there is no version 1.02an, unless you're talking outside of North America. Then, it's anybody's guess.

Hi Mertado and Admiral Veers,

although I'm from Austria, I ordered the US software version of JK II from an online retailer (I'm already sceptical about non-original versions ;-) ).

I heard about the problems of dismemberment in the German retail version although I have no further information on this. Since I'm not concerned, I didn't look further into it. It is being said that you can't even cut an arm. It is, however, possible with some patches to enable this. I was somehow glad to hear this because I needed a justification why my original version was about EUR 15,-- more expensive :-).

But for the US version: There's a great cheat out there which works perfectly - being more universal and without the "deep" (and probably too influencing) editing of config files provided by the enyak patch:

- bring up the console (Shift + ^ (German) or ~ (English, I suppose))

- type: helpUsObi 1 <ENTER> (activates cheat mode)

- type: g_saberRealisticCombat 3 <ENTER> (realistic combat - slice almost everything off; realistic because also running into an opponent can kill him; the meanings/differences of values 1 - 3 are unclear to me at the moment)

You may also put these lines into an autoexec.cfg file, located in the "base" folder (where the other .cfgs reside).

My US version (also rated T) is of v1.02a; so "n" (if it exists) can barely relate to dismemberment.

I'm more concerned about fps at the moment, my system sometimes sacks to ~ 16 fps :evil6: (like in the Nar Shaddaa bar) although it should handle 1024 x 768 with ease - but that's the wrong thread for this (P 4 1.7 GHz, 512 MB RAM, GeForce3 Ti500).

Best regards and may the force be with you

Markus
