Interesting MP problem

I've been playing a lot of JK2 both in MP and have beat it 3 times in SP. IT seems latelt thought that some of my force powers arent working right in MP. Usually, there is no problem but more and more often it seems my mouse wheel wont work, and saber throw wont work either. AT first I thought it might be my mouse. Problem is, my mouse works fine with every other program I have, and works fine for SP. I also thought I might have forgotten to put points into saber throw, but I had put full points in every time. I've even had some cases where force jump wouldnt work correctly.

 

Just as an experiment, I tried creating my own server. Everything worked fine there. The strange thing is that it never happened until the last week or so, yet I havn't changed my system setup at all. No new driver, installed programs, or anything.

 

I'm wondering if this might be a problem with the servers I was on yet when I asked, no one else reported any trouble. Does anyone have a clue as to what might be going on? It's a strange problem and I cant figure it out.

Just noticed a new twist to the problem. Now it seems that my other force powers are picky too. Often, only one or two powers work. I just played a Jedi MAster level server as a dark jedi, with points in jump, push,drain,grip,lightning, and saber throw. Out of all of those, only push and jump would work. I could use saaber throw to turn on my saber, but none of the others would respond at all. No animations or anything. I was able to get them to work but only after I died once. I was glad to find this solution cause I can handle one death to get things to work right. I'm jsut wondering if I'm the only one who has had this problem and there will eventually be a fix.

Local servers never exhibit this problem?

 

I think it's because you are playing on servers that have some variant of the force rules in place.

 

Some only allow Neutral powers - jump/push/pull.

 

Some allow the light sabre but no force.

 

This is likely what you are seeing. Read the multiplayer variants from the main menu of the multiplayer game.

Thats not the problem daralathas but thanks for trying. The reason I know that isnt the problem is bacause all my force powers work after I die. I think there must be some reason that whatever powers I choose when I join server arent accepted until I'm killed. The real problem is with the mouse wheel. A new thing I discovered is that when my mouse wheel wont work, I can pick weapons using the default number keys. When the mouse wheel does work, the number keys wont. I cant figure out why that happens.

You have to set up your Force powers before you enter a MP game (at the screen where you choose to be a spectator or not). If you don't assign points to the powers, they don't work.

 

Your mouse wheel can be fixed, but you have to edit your registry.

 

Open regedit and navigate to:

 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Logitech\MouseWare\CurrentVersion\Technical

 

Make sure the following values are as listed:

 

MouseHookDllEnable=0

WheelMsgToVmouse=1

 

Reboot and you're good to go. Works in all games also.

Thanks for the info Mertado, but thats not the problem. I do set up my foce powers ahead of time but sometimes they just wont work till after I die. Fortunatelly, this usually doesnt happen and it's no big deal to die one time to fix it when it does

 

The mouse wheel works fine with everything else, but only sometimes with this game. As I have posted before, it usually works but when it does, my number keys dont. When the number keys work, the mouse wheel doesnt. It seems that there is a bug that will only allow one weapon selection method to work. Of the two I'd rather have the mouse work since it makes it a lot easier to move around and change weapons at the same time.

 

I played for a couple hours last night and didnt notice either of these problems. I might have had the mouse problem but it was a saber only server so I had no need to switch weapons.

Just bumping this in hopes I can find any solution to the problem. I also want to add that very rarely I will play where neither the key bindings nor the mousewheel will work for weapon selection. This can be a real pain on weapons servers. Fortunatelly, this has only happend a couple of times. Usually one or the other will work.
