ARGH btw... does anyone have tips to make a low lag server? =)
MatrixCPA
Sure, host it on a dedicated T1 or better.
Sysgod
We are hosting ours on redundant/load balanced T1's at the moment, behind a Firewall. Our pings range anywhere from 65 to 390. Any tricks on lowering ping times? There is only two apps running on the Win 2k server, Apache and JO Ded. Oh, some specs - Win 2k Server 1 ghz 400 MB RAM Currently running 200 meg swap file. Running jd2ded.exe 16 player FFA, sv_MaxRate "8000"
Novus
65 sounds like a pretty good ping for DSL or Cable. I don't see where there would be any other bottle neck. It all depends on how much traffic that apache server and the rest of your network is using.
FunkMasta
My server specs: CPU: Intel Pentium III 450Mhz RAM: 448 SDRAM Disk: Seagate ATA100 / 7200rpm Network: 3com Etherlink 10mbit ISA Internet: 1024/512 Cable OS: Jblinux; Kernel: 2.4.7 Gamesetting: 6maxplayer (more info?) I' just ordered some new network cards to install on the server, 2x 10/100mbit SMC PCI TP, to handle the input/output better. I'm going to invest in some more RAM to boost it up abit, 512megs extra I think. I'm soon setting up a server that's identical to this, so i have to servers.. hopefully with reduced lag. My next investment would be a dual amd server. SA-WEET =) Mp Palomino 1.6gigs.
