NewBJedi
UT is nice for 3D sound, and Direct 3D. Pretty much stops at that point - it fails miserably at OpenGL. It has limited terrain as well - box maps. Check out SOF 2's RMG with grassy terrain and you may think differently. Gameplay and what is in there depends on the developer not entirely the engine: http://www.planetsoldier.com/sof2/technology.shtml Unreal/UT netcode sucks, period. And you may be giving UT-2 way too much credit for putting the Karma engine in it - a product they are licensing from another developer. It's all about Karma - the rest is pixels. mrlove
Mine crashes TOO!!! for GOD SAKE... its also only when changing map. i got to the point i cannot wait for the change of maps anymore and need to close program or else i will have to reboot ??LOL. it wasnt like this in the beginning wheni installed it. could due to the mods maybe or because of the "new" dedicated server patch.got damn my im getting mental ****ed up !! and alot of times people get kicked out aswell on the servers after change of map so there is ALOT having this problem... cheeezzzess. athlon k7 750mhz...pc133. could also be the pc133 VIAAGP drivers which mess things up. but dont think so. and to all those immature ****heads spamming with useless messages **** off and let your hormones out=jerk like hell morons! JeDi_HoLLyWoOd
As you all are aware, the cinematics in Jedi Knight 2 are very impressive, yet when I watched them, my sound crackles, and then i lose all the sound in the cinematic............I love this game, of course it has problems, but god I want to watch those movies with no problems. Also I really really want to know why I am unable to run my video on "very high", it crashes like a drunk driver and I don't get to see what it could look like. PLZ don't blame this on my computer stats: I have 850mhz, 256ram, and a 32bit Nvidia card!!!!!!!!!!!! May the force be with you. NewBJedi
Or you guys need to use better video drivers. The current Nvidia's on their site are horribly unstable. I suggest the 27.42's for all OS's: http://www.geforcezone.com/drivers.htm Using a motherboard with a VIA chipset? Turn off fast writes and 4X and all shadow biosing. The marginal 1-3 FPS performance gain with FW and 4X aren't worth the huge increase in instablity. Check for IRQ conflicts - you can't rely on XP to tell you the truth about it - there is a layer of IRQ management that interferes with the true hardware IRQ reporting. You'll have to rely on a DOS program or your motherboard's manual/faq to make sure cards aren't sharing IRQ's. If you bought anything other than very high quality - expensive - ram most likely you've been lied to about the specs. You're going to have knock down the CAS rating in the BIOS. Sorry, I know this is going to tick a lot of you off, but Athlon CPU's and Windows 98/ME are not stable. I have a second computer in the other room (Turd-Bird 1.4 GHZ) running WIN ME, and the difference stands out big time. Not just in stability, but game speed/load times. NewBJedi
You're right. If a person has a VIA chipset/Athlon combo, XP Pro/home is the way to go, with some tweaks - see my Whiners Guide.

Seems your problem is more likely WinME related than Athlon related. Both my rigs at home are AMD based and are up for weeks at a time. Our most reliable machines at the office are Duron-based. Any comparably priced Intel-based machines are steaming piles of dung. Any machine, if it has sufficient RAM installed and is of sufficient spec, will run faster and cleaner with XP than with 98/ME.
