Bandwidth.

I've looked over the postings on this issue as I'd like to know what to expect. The best I got was one that directed me to this site

http://www.tutka.net/~leonva/bandwidth.html

That was a 10 player server. Maxrate set at around 7000 8000 i believe.

Now I've seen this sort of thing happening

you should figure around 30-40kbps per player. So, 16 players would work out to around 60-80k/sec upstream.

Now 16 x 30 doesn't work out to around 60.

So I am missing something obvious, or you don't work it out that way. If you don't work it out that way, how do you please?

All this is a bit new for me, normally I do LANS but now I'm in the big world of cable (not as big as some)

Did you leave off a 0 -- 600-800k/sec

You'll notice that I say 30,000-40,000bps (that's bits per second). To translate that into k/sec (which is kiloBYTES per second), you go through the following:

30,000bps x 16 players = 480,000bps

480,000bps / 8 = 60,000 Bytes/sec

60,0000 Bytes/sec / 1024 = 58.59k/sec (approx 60)

If you do the same thing with 40,000bps x 16 players you get 78.13k/sec (approx 80). So, as you can see....the math works out just fine. :) Just remember, this is using a maxrate of 8000-10000. If you use something less, you're going to need less bandwidth.
