Death-Dude
Hi, I'd search for this, but I can't, so is there a way to increase memory used by the game, as the /com_hunkmegs line does for Wolfenstein? I still freeze 80 or 90 percent of the time going in, but if I get lucky and get in, I'm usually fine, with speedy reloads and such. I was wondering if allocating some more RAM for the game would get me in more reliably. I didn't see any line in the .CFG that looked like it, and wonder if you can add a line to do this, or if I'm overlooking the line in the .CFG. Thanks! Mertado
Yeah, and it's exactly the same command. Use it in your command line. Whether or not it will help is anybody's guess. Also note that this is a MP only cvar and is really only used for dedicated servers.
Death-Dude
Thanks! Sorry, though, I don't know the syntax for adding it to te command line, is it +com_hunkmegs 192? Thanks again.
Mertado
Close. Here's how I'd do it in a batch file or command line: D:\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast\GameData\jk2mp.exe +set com_hunkmegs 192 Or create a shortcut, edit it's properties and put: "D:\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast\GameData\jk2mp.exe" +set com_hunkmegs 192 in the Target line. Make sure you keep the exact same quotation mark placement (the command is OUTSIDE the quotes). Windows is finicky about that. Worked for me when I tested it. Pull down the console and make sure it does for you too.
jasho
Make sure your hunkmegs is around 1/2 your total RAM. Most people don't realize that and end up crashing their game/system.
Death-Dude
I have 512 megs o' DDR. It's also been said that the Q3 engine is not made to use more than 192 in that line, and folks who have tried values over that have had problems; others, no problem at all. It didn't help me much yet, I still crash about 80 or 90 percent of the time going into it, although once I'm in, I can reload a quick-save in about 3-5 seconds, and my FPS is maxing out at 90 almost all of the time. I'm sur eI have more than enough system to run this better than I do, and have tried 23.11s, 27.42s, 27.70s, 28.32s and 23.12s with my GF4 card. The 28.32s never run it, which is disappointing. Here's my system: Antec KS-280 300W PS 8K7A 1.2 Ghz Athlon 256M Micron 2100 DDR 256M Crucial 2100 DDR eVGA GF4 4400 Ti Maxtor 30G 7200 HP 9350i CD-RW Memorex CD-ROM SB Live X-gamer 2 NICs 3Com Linksys Win98 SE
