Nota
I'm getting a GeForce 4 MX440 Verto by PNY tech for my P3 733Mhz 128MB. I was originally going to get a GeForce 3 Ti 500, and had a deal already lined up; But it didn't follow through..... Electronics Boutique in my area is selling the GeForce 4 MX440 64MB Verto cards, and for a reasonable price... I think. 150$ Since no other place in my area has a GeForce 3 for sale, is this card worth getting? Or should I take my money and get an ATI Radeon? Your opinions are greatly appreciated! Coor's Light
Order one man.... I wouldn't get the GeForce 4 mx as it is not that great of a card. Order the GeForce 3 Ti 500 for around $210 you'll be much happier with it.
Avernus
Agreed, the GF4 MX cards are decidedly inferior. Any model GF3 should be able to outperform a GF4MX. If you can wait a few weeks, the GF4 4200 cards are coming soon. They are second only to the GF4 4400/4600 series in performance, and the 64meg version will be under $200. Granted you get only slight gains over a GF3, at least until games take advantage of some extra features in the GF4 chip. Or go with a raidon 8500, anything except GF4MX. Death-Dude
The GF4 MX series is based on an entirely different chipset than the GF4 Ti series, the NV17 versus the NV25. Go look at some benches on anandtech.com, guru3d.com and the like to get a clearer picture of the performance you are likely to get. If you're trying to stay under $200, the Ti 4200s will be out in May, and will start out at about $185, for the visiontek 128 meg version,(on pricewatch now) and will probably fall to $150 or so rather quickly.
