Needless to say they totally missed the point of my report!:

Here is their reply and my original report

Hi,

Thank you for your message.

If you are unable to detect any Jedi Outcast Servers after clicking on the 'Get New List' option from the "Join Server" screen, make sure to click on the 'Source' option at the top of the page so that it changes to 'Internet'. Once this is done, click on 'Get New List' again or 'Refresh List' and you should be able to view any available Servers that are currently running.

Programs running in the system tray can sometimes cause conflicts with DirectX games. These programs can also take up system resources which may need to be freed up for the application to run smoothly. The system tray runs on the side of the taskbar (the bar with the "START" button). These icons are programs that are running on your system, some of them loading at start up. Some of these programs can be shut down by right-clicking on the icon, and choose to Exit, Close, Suspend or Disable the program/utility. In Windows 95/98/Me these applications can also be shut down by pressing

CTRL+ALT+DEL, highlight the program you want to close, and click on End

Task. Do not End Task on Systray and Explorer, but you should try closing any other applications here before you launch the game to see if this resolves any problems you're having with the game. Programs such as ZoneAlarm or Norton Internet Security may need to be manually configured to allow the Jedi Outcast exe file (jk2mp.exe) to access the Internet. Please consult the documentation included with any such security program for specific instructions.

If you still do not see games listed when you are connected to the Internet and you have set the game's multiplayer 'Source' option to 'Internet' and you have tried the various 'Data Rate' options (56K modem, ISDN, LAN/Cable) and you have clicked the 'Get New List' option after making any change to these options, then you are most likely behind a security firewall. Playing behind a firewall requires that you open specific ports for the game information to pass through unhindered.

The specific UDP ports that Jedi Outcast uses are 28060, 28061, 28062, and 28070 through 28081 (inclusive.) These ports need to be opened in the Out-bound direction to join games. They will also need to be opened in the In-bound direction if you want players outside of your firewall to be able to join your dedicated or non-dedicated servers behind your firewall.

Please consult your network administrator or your router manufacturer for information on how to set up these ports.

In general we do not advise setting up a Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast server on a machine that is also either a NAT server (such as Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing) or set up with IP Forwarding for a Local Area Network

(LAN) onto the internet. These machines see clients on your LAN as different addresses from the internet, and therefore cannot be authorized. LEC JAY Please include all previous emails with your reply

PROBLEM: Whenever I create a server, it does not show up in others ingame Internet list. It also does not show up with GameSpy or Qtracker. I am using a cable modem and my connection is up. I can join listed games but my game never gets listed. The only way a friend could join was by entering my IP address in his favorites and joining with a favorite. I have also read in the forums others having this problem but nobody has a solution.

Hmmm No replies. Does anybody have any comments?

Well here is what I got in response to the reply I sent back as well as my reply back this time:

Hi,

Thank you for your message.

I'm guessing you're playing while hosting. If you are playing while hosting on the internet, your game is not listed on the Internet page. Any other machine on your LAN will see you on the Local page, but any machine connecting from a separate network/dialup can only connect by entering the IP address of your machine on the Favorites page (like you describe below.) This is to limit the type of servers allowed on different pages, specifically the Internet page which is only supposed to show Dedicated

Servers. If you want your friends to see him on the Internet list you'll

need to start it as a Dedicated Server, which means you'll need another machine to play on, too.

Hope this helps

And now my reply I just sent:

Well so what you are saying is that non-dedicated servers will NOT show up on the Internet server list. Your manual does not state this and nobody else that I have talked to about this was aware of this limitation. Further this seems to be the first game I have come across that does this. AvP2 shows my non-dedicated server in the lists as does other Quake 3 based games. You ought to think about this limitation. We all want to be able to find other non-dedicated servers (because these are more likely to have new skins/maps installed) through the server list and/or using GameSpy or Qtracker. And the majority of us that would set up servers do not have a separate computer to play on. We understand limitations exist as to the numbers of players that should play on non-dedicated servers but we should still have a way to set them up so other people can join without having to know IPs. Basically now we have to set up forums or something to trade IPs of games we are hosting. This is unwieldly to say the least, which is why we use in-game server listings or GameSpy and Qtracker to begin with. So I'm asking you to implement non-dedicated server listings and I'm going to get others on the forums to email you asking the same.

From my experience, by slogging through all the posts on this board, poring over every last little bit of Raven published info, and from that LEC tech support note, listen servers in JK2 don't broadcast their presence to the Internet. You may still be able to connect using the Add Favorite option, but you'll never see it on the Internet list. I could be wrong. I should know sometime tomorrow.

Yes...That's exactly what the latest reply from tech support said...That only the dedicated servers will show up on the list...Point is should it be that way? I bet that most of game players don't think it should (from the number of questions I have seen on this forum why their game can't be seen). It would probably be pretty easy to implement with a patch....So again I say if you want this feature then email LucasArts Tech Support and tell them so!
