You'll want to stay away from Internal PCI modems & software based modems. They're more commonly referred to a Winmodems. The trouble is a good modem doesn't come cheap. Expect to pay at least $80. Yeah, same here, but connected to a router. No problems here either, and I suggest you get this one if you go the cable route, duo_maxwell. It even has a nifty "Standby" button that cuts off data flow to your PC. You'll need either a network card or a USB port to use the modem, though.
