Losing master server list on Client when running dedicated Server

My experience with running a dedicated server has been better than most.

I set up port forwarding with my LinkSys (it does NOT have the latest drivers, it has 1.39 which I think is around a year old) for just the default port 28070 and it came up and ran just fine all last night.

People were connecting and playing with no complaints at all.

Except me.

Once I enabled the port forwarding, I could no longer access the master server from my other machine. If I tried to access the server in internet mode I would get the cl_parse error right away but if I attached to the server in local mode it worked fine.

I suspect the error is due to my going out to the master server to connect, then the packets are being redirected back to my same IP so they are being dropped, causing the error (pure speculation on my part).

The real problem for me is the fact I can't get to the master server with my game machine with the port forwarding on. This one has me stumped, as all I see is an empty list and "Getting Server Information..." (or whatever) in the lower righthand corner.

That may work. I know that with RtCW you couldn't run the game on the default port and use a client on the same LAN. Just make sure you are only forwarding the ports you need for the server instead of all of the possible server ports.

I have my server running on port 28080 are there any other ports I would need for the server?

I had the EXACT same problem. Mine worked and started doing that.

I reinstalled the game and it worked fine.

Mine started doing it as soon as I set an rconpassword.

I think it's just a fluke the game does or something because now I have an rconpassword and it works fine..

Who knows...

Do you have the firewall set to forward any "unknown" traffic to your game system as opposed to the server? Just as a test you might temporarily disable the server port forwarding and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, then the issue isn't with the server forwarding. At least then you'd have something else to work with.

Just an update on an old issue.

Due to the problems with the patch and unpure client kicking I did a full reinstall on both my server and client PC's.

My client can now see the master list whereas before it could not.

Someone mentioned about Q3 type games scanning the list of available ports and I suspect this is what happened with the reinstall.

Originally the client machine was installed first, then the server PC was installed and the router's ports were forwarded.

This time I did the install with the server already running and the router already configured. It looks like the client figured out we had a server on our local net and that the router was using certain ports and made appropriate accomidations.

I figured out a way to get both the client and the server to work at the same time. First my server is set to run on port 28070 so I just made a short cut to the mulitplayer exe file on my client and added a "+set net_port 28071" to the end of the command. Now everything works fine and I can get a master server list
